Parts three to five cover probability, statistical inference, and more advanced statistical techniques.

Book Synopsis Applied Statistics for Economists by : Margaret Lewis
Download or read book Applied Statistics for Economists written by Margaret Lewis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economists have employed numerical information to understand economic phenomena since the origins of the modern discipline in the seventeenth century. While the methods for assessing such information are increasingly sophisticated, we continue to be interested in identifying and understanding trends and patterns in economic data. This text is an introduction to some of the tried-and-true quantitative methods used by economists. Its goal is to give students a background in these methods so they might do empirical economics in their upper-division economics courses. Hitherto, most economists have been forced to resort to business statistics or even general statistics texts in order to introduce quantitative methods to economists. This text moves beyond those and includes a wealth of examples and applications that are specifically relevant to economics

Book Synopsis Rethinking the Meaning of Family for Adolescents and Youth in Zimbabwe’s Child Welfare Institutions by : Getrude Dadirai Gwenzi
Download or read book Rethinking the Meaning of Family for Adolescents and Youth in Zimbabwe’s Child Welfare Institutions written by Getrude Dadirai Gwenzi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-13 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the lives of children and young adults living in residential care systems in Zimbabwe and their unique conceptualization of family. While the importance of family for the development and wellbeing of children can't be overemphasized, the questions of what and who counts as family to orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) are under-researched. Gwenzi brings a social constructionist approach to study OVCs in institutional care as well as living with their families in Zimbabwe, finding that they do not have a single definition of family and that they use diverse characteristics to describe what family means to them. With the data suggesting a need for belonging, continuity of relationships, protection, and trust, this study makes recommendations for policy and practice with youth in alternative care in sub-Saharan Africa.

This book provides an integrated approach to the topics of inequality and personal income distribution. It covers the practical and theoretical bases for inequality analysis, applications to real world problems and the foundations of theoretical approaches to income distribution. It also analyses models of the distribution of labour earnings and of income from wealth. The long-run development of income - and wealth - distribution over many generations is also examined. Special attention is given to an assessment of the merits and weaknesses of standard economic models, to illustrating the implications of distributional mechanisms using real data and illustrative examples, and to providing graphical interpretation of formal arguments. Examples are drawn from US, UK and international sources.
