Book Synopsis Failure Analysis of Biometals by : Reza H Oskouei
Download or read book Failure Analysis of Biometals written by Reza H Oskouei and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-10 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metallic biomaterials (biometals) are widely used for the manufacture of medical implants, ranging from load-bearing orthopaedic prostheses to dental and cardiovascular implants, because of their favourable combination of properties, including high strength, fracture toughness, biocompatibility, and wear and corrosion resistance. Owing to the significant consequences of implant material failure/degradation, in terms of both personal and financial burden, failure analysis of biometals has always been of paramount importance in order to understand the failure mechanisms and implement suitable solutions with the aim to improve the longevity of implants in the body. Failure Analysis of Biometals presents some of the latest developments and findings in this area. This includes a great range of common metallic biomaterials (Ti alloys, CoCrMo alloys, Mg alloys, and NiTi alloys) and their associated failure mechanisms (corrosion, fatigue, fracture, and fretting wear) that commonly occur in medical implants and surgical instruments.

Book Synopsis Metallography in Failure Analysis by : J. McCall
Download or read book Metallography in Failure Analysis written by J. McCall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detailed analyses of failures of material components have proved to be valuable in many ways; by preventing further failures, by assessing the validity of designs and the selection of materials, by uncovering shortcomings in the processing of the materials in volved through characterizations of defects, and by revealing problems introduced during the manufacture or fabrication of the component. Increased recognition of the value of performing failure analyses has caused the field to develop into a very active area of tech nical endeavor. Failure analysis has been employed in numerous different technical dis ciplines and has proven beneficial. The increased activity has caused many new and im proved methods for performing these analyses to be developed. Among these are many methods which can be characterized as generally belonging to the field of metallography. In recognition of the important role that metallography plays in the performance of failure analyses, the absence of a text that specifically discusses this subject, and the be lief that communication of information on the subject would be of technical interest, The American Society for Metals and The International Metallographic Society co sponsored a symposium. The intent was to bring together world-recognized authorities working in various aspects of the failure analysis and metallographic fields to share meth ods they use, results they have obtained, and the purposes to which they utilized these results. The symposium, entitled "Metallography in Failure Analysis", was held in Hous ton, Texas, USA, July 17-18, 1977.

Book Synopsis Metallomics by : Marco Aurélio Zezzi Arruda
Download or read book Metallomics written by Marco Aurélio Zezzi Arruda and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-08 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the new Omics area, Metallomics. As Metallomics is intrinsically a transdisciplinary area, this book is authored by experts in the field on such diverse topics as Environmental, Nuclear, and Human Metallomics. Within these topics metals play important role, as being part of biomolecules, controlling different biochemical process, being signaling agents, being catalyst of biochemical reactions, among others. This volume demonstrates the importance of more investigation about metals and their interactions with biomolecules. As the knowledge in this field is growing and growing daily, then new challenges concerning studies involving Metallomics is appearing, such as comparative metallomics, speciation metallomics, real-time metallomics, new predictions of metals in biomolecules, metalloprotein databank expansion, interactions between metalloprotein-metalloprotein, among others.
Book Synopsis Failure Analysis of Materials: An Introduction by : Thomas David Burleigh
Download or read book Failure Analysis of Materials: An Introduction written by Thomas David Burleigh and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-08-02 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook covers the important steps in conducting a failure analysis, without boring the student to death. A material failure is defined as a part breaking unexpectedly. The part can be metal, plastic, ceramic or glass, and by breaking we mean that there is a fracture face or a damaged surface to examine. Failure analysis is the science of determining how and why the part broke. An accurate failure analysis is key to making a better product. If one does not understand why a part failed, then it is only guesswork as to how to fix it. Failure analysis of materials is a multi-disciplinary field because is requires people skills in asking the right questions, engineering skills in calculating the stresses, and metallurgical skills in understanding the alloys and interpreting the micrographs. The final skill is writing a comprehensive report. These topics and more are covered in this book.
