Book excerpt: “A contemporary novel of masterful horror replete with magic, fantasy, and more than a little stylish sensuality.”—The Washington Post Phil Hastings was a lucky man—he had money, a growing reputation as a screenwriter, a happy, loving family with three kids, and he'd just moved into the house of his dreams in rural of magic—and about to be altered irrevocably by a magic more real than any he dared imagine. For with the Magic came the Bad Thing, and the Faerie, and then the Fool . . . and the resurrection of a primordial war with a forgotten People—a war that not only the Hastings but the whole human race could lose. “Absorbing, thought-provoking, and thoroughly magical. Feist's skillfully crafted prose illuminates many of the darker sides of fairy stories. . . . Try it as a bedtime story . . . but only on nights when you can take some time getting to sleep.”—The West Coast Review of Books

Book Synopsis The Chronicles of the Sidhe by : Steve Blamires
Download or read book The Chronicles of the Sidhe written by Steve Blamires and published by Skylight Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a thirteen-year period, the reclusive Scottish writer Fiona Macleod enthralled the Victorian reading public with a deluge of stories, novels, poems and essays drawn from the wildly romantic Highland and Island landscape. Although it was later revealed that these works had issued from the pen of William Sharp, it was clear that Fiona Macleod was more than a pseudonym; to Sharp she was very much an autonomous entity. What's more, the wealth of previously unknown and unheard of myths, names, traditions and beliefs in her writings, while shone through a Celtic prism, show every sign of having emanated from the Realm of Faery. Steve Blamires presents a ground-breaking assessment of the Faery lore within Fiona Macleod's literary output as part of his ongoing study of this enigmatic writer. Building on the established groundwork of his biography of Sharp, The Little Book of the Great Enchantment, he explores the mythology and traditions of Faery, their symbolic and magical significance, and the devices employed by Fiona in the transmission of Faery teachings and inspirations. Using examples from Fiona's rich and resonant body of work, his detailed interpretation will enable the reader to tease out the Faery gems that are still to be found woven into the lines and verse of her writings.
Book Synopsis Faerie Queen: Queen of the Faeries, War of the Faeries, Reign of the Faery Queen by : Catherine Harper
Download or read book Faerie Queen: Queen of the Faeries, War of the Faeries, Reign of the Faery Queen written by Catherine Harper and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2003-09 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Revelation of St. John is, according to some writers, the most difficult book to understand in the entire Bible. It uses symbols in most chapters to stand for real things It is difficult to distinguish between what is meant to be symbolic and what is literal. This difficulty is compounded in much of the book because symbolic language is clearly mixed with language that can only be literal. Thus the book appears to be an enigma wrapped in a riddle. The book is the only major example of NT apocalyptic writing. It appears to be so complex most Christians find it impossible to understand. As a result of its complexity, apparently few read it. That obtains despite the blessing pronounced on the reader in 1:3 for those who read it. Some writers have said the book was never intended to be understood because there is no apparent pattern to the prophecy. They maintain that it will never be understood this side of eternity. That idea flies in the face of common sense. If God had not intended men to understand the prophecy in the book, it would surely seem a waste to cause it to be written. There may, however, be certain things in the book that will not be completely understood in this life. That situation, according to other writers, is intended to show the Divine origin of the book. There can be little doubt the book has in it the very mind of the Almighty. Because of that, it appears to demand Divine inspiration in order to understand its total meaning. Thus the correct interpretation of the total prophecy may be revealed to men when the time is right; probably very near the end of human history on earth. The meaning of the prophecy in the book of Daniel was "sealed" or "shut up" (concealed) so that no one could completely understand it. That prophecy, according to Dan. 12:4 & 9, would be concealed until the arrival of the second (and last) "time of the end." That may be the short time period of several decades just before the end of human history when the full meaning of the Revelation also will be revealed to the followers of Christ. That is true even though the Revelation has not been "shut up" or "concealed" for many long centuries. That the book has not been "shut up" or concealed is stated emphatically in the book. Although the meaning of the prophecy of Revelation has not been concealed, many writers say the book is far more complex and much more difficult to understand than the prophecy of Daniel. Many hundreds (if not thousands) of commentaries have been written, over the centuries, in efforts to explain the prophecy. Many outlines also have been constructed in efforts to make the book more understandable. The meaning of the prophecy of the 7 letters apparently is fairly well understood. But the majority of the remainder of the prophecy appears to be less well understood. No commentary written to date fully explains the total prophecy in a biblically correct and intelligent manner. It is as if the complete meaning eludes the human intellect. Thus despite the "unsealed" nature of the prophecy, much of the book still appears to be beyond the comprehension of most laymen as well as bible scholars. The present study is a calculated attempt to give the reader a full understanding of the total prophecy. If one understands the prophecy of Daniel, the book of Revelation is not difficult to understand. The reader should first read the book "The Time of the End in the Book of Daniel" by the present writer. That book "unseals" or reveals the true meaning of Daniel's prophecy for the first time in the history of the study of Daniel.. If Daniel is fully understood, both the Revelation AND the Olivet Discourse are

Book Synopsis The Fairy Forest by : Barbara Costanza
Download or read book The Fairy Forest written by Barbara Costanza and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is based on a true story within a privately owned forest preserved for the minds of creative people. Mossy trails with interesting twists and turns are lined with homemade fairy houses. After our familys loss of a child, we decided to gather a community of friends to use our land as a magical place to go for peace and to connect back to nature. We asked friends and family to write their own fairy character and some are used in the book. The main character in the book has suffered the loss of a sibling. She is asked to watch the family cat for five days, which she is not very interested in doing. She has many complaints about this chore being she is a doctor, mother, and wife and not in a good frame of mind, she feels overwhelmed with life. The first day, it started to happen, while going to the house to check on the cat she ventures into the woods only to discover a whole new dimension of life. While she is walking on the path looking for the cat she trips over a tree root and falls. She is not sure if she has injured her head or if what she sees next is real. She meets a figment of her imagination named Rosy. While laying on the ground the character sketches what she sees. Rosy is an old spirit who guides her each day through the woods. The next morning the fairy spirit is revealed on the sketchpad, which begins the true-life journey. Each day for five consecutive days, she returns to feed the cat and ventures back into the woods. She meets different fairies and she has unordinary experiences. Once she enters through the gate she is transformed physically into the fairy realm. She gets introduces to many of the fairy characters and is impressed with their diversity as they show their own personality and special gifts. On the last day, through the evidence of her sketched drawings, she is becomes aware that this was not just her mind playing tricks on her. For her it is a personal journey discovering how to enjoy the simple things in life just as she did when she was a child. She is shown that her sibling is still with her and lives on it the afterlife filling the emptiness in her heart. The photography in the book will make readers feel like they are taking the adventure with her. We know that nature has its own way of healing the human spirit in ways beyond our comprehension. This story is a light read and can only make you feel that love is all around us even when we feel alone. The real character and illustrator goes through the grieving process and slowly begins to heal using her creative mind. She went back to college and received awards for her drawings. It has enlightened and changed her life. We hope that the readers will find their own personal creative self while taking a walk through these pages.
