It contains both old and new poems on several types of subject matter-from life and love to Goth and war. The poems express his views and his creativity; his love of Gothic music, aircraft, the written word and weird girls inspire him and the end result is here. He wrote his poetry while in a variety of moods. Volume 2 will follow in the future with more of his poetry. Nick has always been drawn to the weird and wonderful, and his poetry constitutes his small addition to this. The poems are simple and lasting, and make a graphic and often startling impact that cuts like broken glass.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author of Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp novels Kyle Mills rewrites the rules for thrillers with Fade -- a novel ripped from today's headlines Welcome to the new war on terror. A secret wing of Homeland Security is recruiting agents to work undercover in the Middle East, and the director wants his second-in-command, Matt Egan, to bring aboard an old friend, Salam Al Fayed—better known as Fade. He's perfect: An ex-Navy Seal and the son of immigrants, he speaks flawless Arabic. Trouble is, he's "retired"; he was wounded in the line of duty, and the government refused to pay for the risky surgery that could have helped him. Now he's walking around with a bullet lodged near his spine, and he's not too fond of anyone in the government -- least of all, his ex-best friend Matt Egan, whom he blames for his present condition. Against Egan's wishes, the director tries to "persuade" Fade to join the team. But Fade is prepared to fight back at any cost. The chase is on -- will Matt be able to find his friend-turned-fugitive before Fade can take the ultimate revenge? Fade is a remarkable, take-no-prisoners program from an unparalleled writer at the height of his talents.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Nick Armbrister's third collection of poems and his fourth book. It has poems that didn't make his first two collections due to a variety of reasons. He didn't think some of his early poems were up to standard; these he edited and rewrote; some poetry was too personal in nature, like relationship ones. Also, poetry that repeated the same subject matter never made the first two books. In later years, after re-reading his poetry, Nick decided to bring all of his remaining unpublished work together in this new volume - poems written during the years 1996-2008. The work changes in depth, quality and subject matter and most of the poems have never been published before. Nick continues his passionate, multi-emotional and often left-of-centre work in these poems. Nick has always been drawn to the weird and wonderful. While his poems are often simple and brittle, they make a graphic and powerful impact that cuts like broken glass.

Book excerpt: This is Nick Armbrister's second volume of poetry, and follows his first book, Fade into Focus, Focus into Fade, released in 2006-bringing the number of poems he has published to over 150. Again, his subject matter varies as does his mood and outlook. Nick likes to write simple poems that convey his emotions and thoughts first hand, to be shared with his readers and audience. Music, life, aviation, gothic culture, and more besides, inspire his poetry in which he dares to bare his heart, soul and mind-in brittle, startling poems that touch the raw nerves of life, yet a life that throbs with positive energy. As one reviewer put it, he "sees the dark underbelly of the world but counterpoints it with hope and warnings about falling into the same traps" (D. J. Turner in The Supplement).

Book excerpt: This is Nick Armbrister's first collection of short stories, written from the late 90's to the present day. They cover several topics, like his poems, but in much more depth-from satanic actions by people worshipping an evil god ('Loss of the Ice Queen') to warriors of the sky using man's most powerful weapons in anger ('Final Flight'), to an attempt to control fate ('Spell to Find Amelia Earhart'), and to a post-nuclear townscape ('Second History', set in Oldham). Two of the stories are fragments of larger uncompleted/lost work that deserve inclusion here. One day these projects may well see the light of day, but for now, the author hopes the reader will enjoy his 'dark work'-in time he hopes to do a follow-up. These stories span his entire writing career. Though he prefers poetry as a means of incisive, concentrated power of expression, he loves short stories for their fun; even those that give one a glimpse into the dark side that lurks beneath the surface of life

Book excerpt: An argument that more people should have children with Down syndrome, written from a pro-choice, disability-positive perspective. The rate at which parents choose to terminate a pregnancy when prenatal tests indicate that the fetus has Down syndrome is between 60 and 90 percent. In Choosing Down Syndrome, Chris Kaposy offers a carefully reasoned ethical argument in favor of choosing to have such a child. Arguing from a pro-choice, disability-positive perspective, Kaposy makes the case that there is a common social bias against cognitive disability that influences decisions about prenatal testing and terminating pregnancies, and that more people should resist this bias by having children with Down syndrome. Drawing on accounts by parents of children with Down syndrome, and arguing for their objectivity, Kaposy finds that these parents see themselves and their families as having benefitted from having a child with Down syndrome. To counter those who might characterize these accounts as based on self-deception or expressing adaptive preference, Kaposy cites supporting evidence, including divorce rates and observational studies showing that families including children with Down syndrome typically function well. Himself the father of a child with Down syndrome, Kaposy argues that cognitive disability associated with Down syndrome does not lead to diminished well-being. He argues further that parental expectations are influenced by neoliberal ideologies that unduly focus on the supposed diminished economic potential of a person with Down syndrome. Kaposy does not advocate restricting access to abortion or prenatal testing for Down syndrome, and he does not argue that it is ethically mandatory in all cases to give birth to a child with Down syndrome. People should be free to make important decisions based on their values. Kaposy's argument shows that it may be consistent with their values to welcome a child with Down syndrome into the family.
