This book was released on 2000-04-07 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first textbook on Bose-Einstein correlations and their applications, an interdisciplinary topic bridging particle physics and quantum physics, and currently the centre of considerable interest in high energy physics. Besides its fundamental importance for particle physics, this phenomenon constitutes the main tool for the determination of sizes and lifetimes of particle sources. The contents of this book are divided into the following chapters, each of which concludes with exercises designed to test the reader's understanding of the concepts and theories included therein: The Foundations; Hadron Interferometry; Currents; Sources; Applications to Ultrarelativistic Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions; Correlations and Multiplicity Distributions; Photos versus Hadrons. It provides the first systematic analysis and comparison of the different theoretical approaches to the subject and will be invaluable to theorists and experimentalists in particle and nuclear physics, quantum optics and astrophysics.

This book was released on 1991-01-30 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main theme of this workshop, the fourth meeting in the LESIP series, is correlations and Fluctuations in strong interaction processes. While the emphasis was on Bose-Einstein correlations between identical particles, other kinds of correlations (between non-identical particles, multiplicity distributions, transverse energy distributions, inelasticity distributions etc.) were addressed. The recent developments in fractal dynamics, intermittency, deterministic chaos and information entropy and their roles in high energy physics also was addressed. Finally, transverse energy distributions and inelasticity distributions, insofar as they impart information about thermalization of the energy available for hadronization, was discussed. These issues are of relevance for the current searches for Quark-Gluon-Plasma. The goal of the workshop is to provide a forum for the presentation of new experimental results.

Book Synopsis Particle Production Spanning MeV and TeV Energies by : W. Kittel
Download or read book Particle Production Spanning MeV and TeV Energies written by W. Kittel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle production is an important topic in nuclear and particle physics. At high energies, particle production is considered to proceed via parton branching and subsequent fragmentation into hadrons. The study of the dynamics of this process and the study of the structure of hadrons in the context of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) belong to the challenges of the standard model of elementary particle physics, requiring new, nonperturba tive approaches in field theory. Within a nucleus, many-body dynamics is important and particle production may be used to determine many features of a non-equilibrium quantum system at low or high temperatures. At this Advanced Study Institute the different aspects of particle pro duction were expanded upon in a series of lectures given by experts in their fields, covering topics ranging from near-threshold meson production in proton-proton collisions to correlations in multi-GeV jet fragmentation in high-energy scattering processes and signals of a quark-gluon plasma formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Strong emphasis was placed not only on state of the art research, but also on the necessary physics back ground. The lectures were supplemented by problem sets and discussion sessions. There was also time for students to present short contributions on their research.

Book Synopsis Universal Fluctuations: The Phenomenology Of Hadronic Matter by : Robert Botet
Download or read book Universal Fluctuations: The Phenomenology Of Hadronic Matter written by Robert Botet and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002-08-02 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of this book is to present, in a comprehensive and progressive way, the appearance of universal limit probability laws in physics, and their connection with the recently developed scaling theory of fluctuations. Arising from the probability theory and renormalization group methods, this novel approach has been proved recently to provide efficient investigative tools for the collective features that occur in any finite system. The mathematical background is self-contained and is formulated in terms which are easy to apply to the physical context. After illustrating the problem of anomalous diffusion, the book reviews recent advances in nuclear and high energy physics, where the limit laws are now recognized as being able to classify different phases of a system undergoing the pseudo-critical behaviour. A new description of the hadronic matter in terms of the fluctuation scaling is appearing as a consequence of this approach.

Book Synopsis Bose-Einstein Correlations in Particle and Nuclear Physics by : Richard M. Weiner
Download or read book Bose-Einstein Correlations in Particle and Nuclear Physics written by Richard M. Weiner and published by . This book was released on 1997-10-13 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intensity interferometry, and Bose?Einstein Correlations in particular, at present constitutes the only experimental method for the determination of sizes and lifetimes of sources in particle and nuclear physics. The measurement of these is essential for an understanding of the dynamics of strong interactions which are responsible for the existence and properties of atomic nuclei. Bose?Einstein Correlations in Particle and Nuclear Physics is a collection of 47 previously published papers which have been chosen not only for their historical significance but for their important and so far lasting contribution to this subject. They appear in chronological order and are preceded by comments from the editor as to their importance and relevance to the field today. Bose?Einstein Correlations in Particle and Nuclear Physics is an invaluable and unique reference source for researchers, lecturers and graduate students at both universities and research institutes. Advance praise for this volume includes: ?This comprehensive reprint collection, compiled and introduced by Professor Richard Weiner, surveys both experimental and theoretical papers in the field of Bose?Einstein Correlations. The material included should prove invaluable to any worker or student entering the field. As noted by Professor Weiner, Bose?Einstein Correlations may be the most important step towards finding the "holy grail" of a quark-gluon plasma.? ? Book Synopsis The Bose-Einstein Correlations in CDFII Experiment by :
Download or read book The Bose-Einstein Correlations in CDFII Experiment written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the results of a study of p$\bar{p}$ collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF-II experiment at Tevatron collider. The Bose-Einstein correlations of the [pi]±[pi]± two boson system have been studied in the minimum-bias high-multiplicity events. The research was carried out on the sample at the size of 173761 events. The two pion correlations have been retrieved. The final results were corrected to the coulomb interactions. Two different reference samples were compared and discussed. A significant two-pion correlation enhancement near origin is observed. This enhancement effect has been used to evaluate the radius of the two-pion emitter source. We have used the TOF detector to distinguish between [pi] and K mesons. The C2(Q) function parameters have also been retrieved for the sample containing only tagged [pi] mesons. A comparison between four different parametrizations based on two diff t theoretical approaches of the C2(Q) function is given.
