Book excerpt: En la actualidad el ruido se constituye como uno de los problemas más acuciantes del mundo desarrollado, siendo causa de la progresiva disminución de la capacidad auditiva que viene sufriendo el hombre. Además, el ruido es uno de los elementos con mayor capacidad de alterar el sueño, produciendo somnolencia, provocando mal humor y disminuyendo la capacidad de atención y la destreza mental, generando síndromes asociados a trastornos del sueño de gran prevalencia en una gran parte de la población. En este estudio se evaluó la exposición a ruido y las alteraciones del sueño en trabajadores de pubs de la ciudad de Los Ángeles, provincia del Biobío, Chile. Se realizó un análisis de correlaciones a fin de evidenciar si el ruido afectaba la calidad del sueño de los trabajadores de pubs. La muestra bajo estudio se constituyó por 34 trabajadores, con funciones en áreas de cocina, áreas de mesas y funciones de DJs. El análisis de las dosis de ruido mostró que el 50% de trabajadores se encontraba expuesto a este agente. El cargo con más exposición fue el de DJ con un 75% de los trabajadores expuestos. Con relación a la existencia de Somnolencia Diurna Excesiva se evidenció que el 61.76% de trabajadores de pub la presentaba. Para el caso del Insomnio se obtuvo que el 52.94% de trabajadores padecía algún grado de esta alteración. El test de correlaciones arrojó que existe correlación entre la Somnolencia Diurna Excesiva y el ruido, al igual que para el ruido y el Insomnio.

Book excerpt: Urnia, de acuerdo a las estadísticas de la COMPIN entre los años 2005- 2009 fueron dictaminados 1033 casos de enfermedades profesionales de los cuales el 66,6 % corresponde a hipoacusia neurosensorial producida por ruido. El estudio realizado en una empresa laminadora de madera, tuvo como objetivo medir los niveles de ruido a los que se encuentran expuestos los trabajadores. Se realizaron mediciones con sonómetro (ruido ambiental) y con dosímetro (dosis personal) para determinar si el ruido era causa de efectos auditivos y efectos extra auditivos como la calidad de sueño. Las variables estudiadas fueron los niveles de ruido, dosis de ruido, áreas de trabajo, calidad de sueño, antigüedad y edad de los trabajadores. Al realizar la encuesta de Pittsburg para medir calidad de sueño y al aplicar la escala de Somnolencia Diurna de Epworth se encontró que el 76% de trabajadores padecían alteraciones de sueño como consecuencia de la exposición a elevados niveles de ruido y a la irregular utilización de Elemento de Protección Auditiva (EPA). El área de guillotinas presentó la mayor cantidad de diagnósticos de trauma acústico, debido a los elevados niveles de ruido de tipo impulsivo, medidos en decibeles ponderados de C [dB(C)] y a la no utilización de Elementos de Protección Auditiva (EPA). En todas las áreas en las que se realizaron mediciones se encontró que se superaban excesivamente los niveles de ruido establecidos por la normativa legal vigente del Decreto Supremo 594 y el Protocolo de exposición ocupacional a ruido (PREXOR), por lo que estos trabajadores se encuentran con riesgo de adquirir hipoacusia neurosensorial laboral (HNSL).

What it is instead, however, is less clear. That it might be a kind of writing, putting things to paper, has now and then occurred to those engaged in producing it, consuming it, or both. But the examination of it as such has been impeded by several considerations, none of them very reasonable. One of these, especially weighty among the producers, has been simply that it is an unanthropological sort of thing to do. What a proper ethnographer ought properly to be doing is going out to places, coming back with information about how people live there, and making that information available to the professional community in practical form, not lounging about in libraries reflecting on literary questions. Excessive concern, which in practice usually means any concern at all, with how ethnographic texts are constructed seems like an unhealthy self-absorptiontime wasting at best, hypochondriacal at worst. The advantage of shifting at least part of our attention from the fascinations of field work, which have held us so long in thrall, to those of writing is not only that this difficulty will become more clearly understood, but also that we shall learn to read with a more percipient eye. A hundred and fifteen years (if we date our profession, as conventionally, from Tylor) of asseverational prose and literary innocence is long enough.
