Book excerpt: I couldn't walk away. It's not who I am. The moment I saw Rayne broken and bloodied, I knew I wasn't leaving without her. As the president of the Houston Defiance MC, my job is to protect. And there's no taming the rage building inside my body, screaming at me to shield her from the husband who's beating her day in and day out.Taking her was never in my plans, but plans change. I don't care if she's married. Or that her husband's a cop. Our connection is explosive, it's dangerous, it's intoxicating. And I'm fast being swept up in her storm. It's something I can't ignore. I thought the enemy was clear, and I was ready to fight. But maybe there's a threat we didn't see coming? Maybe there's someone closer to us than we ever could have imagined. Someone who could be the destruction of us both. From International Bestselling Author KE Osborn comes the highly anticipated first book in the Houston Defiance MC Series.
Download or read book Our Explosive Sun written by Pal Brekke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-10 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sun, which is our own star at the center of the Solar System, gives rise to all life on Earth and is the driver of photosynthesis in plants and the source of all food and energy for living things. As seen with the naked eye, the Sun appears as a static and quiet yellow disk in the sky. However, it is a stormy and ever-changing star that contributes much more than light and heat. For example, it is the source of the beautiful northern lights and can affect our technology-based society in many ways. Our Explosive Sun: A Visual Feast of our Source of Light and Life is a great introduction to the Sun for general readers as well as scientists who are not solar physicists. The book presents the basic properties of the Sun, describes how it has fascinated humans throughout history, and shows how it influences our current technologies. The book includes a large number of illustrations and video materials for SpringerExtras, along with a PowerPoint presentation that provides a useful resource for teachers and lectures.
Book Synopsis Explosive Shocks in Air by : Gilbert F. Kinney
Download or read book Explosive Shocks in Air written by Gilbert F. Kinney and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A purpose of science is to organize diversified factual knowledge into a coherent body of information, and to present this from the simplest possible viewpoint. This is a formidable task where our knowledge is incomplete, as it is with explosions. Here one runs the risk of oversimplification, naivete, and incom pleteness. Nevertheless a purpose of this work is to present as simply as possible a general description of the basic nature of explosions. This treatise should be of interest to all who are working with explosives such as used in construction or in demolition work, in mining operations, or in military applications. It should also be of interest to those concemed with disasters such as explosions or earthquakes, to those involved in civil defense precautions, and to those concemed with defense against terrorists. That is, this material should be of interest to all who wish to utilize, or to avoid, the effects of explosions as weil as to those whose interest is primarily scientific in nature.

Kurowski Introduction to the Technology of Explosives is a clear and concise survey of the technologies and physical processes involved in explosive phenomena. The book is intended to provide the worker new to the field with sufficient background to understand problems that may arise and to interact intelligently with specialists in the field. The book covers the fundamentals of the chemistry of explosives; the mechanics of burning; sound, shock, and detonation; initiation and initiators; scaling in design and analysis; and off-the-shelf explosive devices. It provides the basic calculational skills needed to solve simple, first-order engineering design problems, and emphasizes the crucial importance of safety considerations. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive overview of this topic. It serves as a single source for information about the properties, preparation, and uses of all relevant primary explosives. The first chapter provides background such as the basics of initiation and differences between requirements on primary explosives used in detonators and igniters. The authors then clarify the influence of physical characteristics on explosive properties, focusing on those properties required for primary explosives. Furthermore, the issue of sensitivity is discussed. All the chapters on particular groups of primary explosives are structured in the same way, including introduction, physical and chemical properties, explosive properties, preparation and documented use. The authors thoroughly verified all data and information. A unique feature of this book are original microscopic images of some explosives.

Book Synopsis Reducing the Threat of Improvised Explosive Device Attacks by Restricting Access to Explosive Precursor Chemicals by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Reducing the Threat of Improvised Explosive Device Attacks by Restricting Access to Explosive Precursor Chemicals written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2018-05-19 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are a type of unconventional explosive weapon that can be deployed in a variety of ways, and can cause loss of life, injury, and property damage in both military and civilian environments. Terrorists, violent extremists, and criminals often choose IEDs because the ingredients, components, and instructions required to make IEDs are highly accessible. In many cases, precursor chemicals enable this criminal use of IEDs because they are used in the manufacture of homemade explosives (HMEs), which are often used as a component of IEDs. Many precursor chemicals are frequently used in industrial manufacturing and may be available as commercial products for personal use. Guides for making HMEs and instructions for constructing IEDs are widely available and can be easily found on the internet. Other countries restrict access to precursor chemicals in an effort to reduce the opportunity for HMEs to be used in IEDs. Although IED attacks have been less frequent in the United States than in other countries, IEDs remain a persistent domestic threat. Restricting access to precursor chemicals might contribute to reducing the threat of IED attacks and in turn prevent potentially devastating bombings, save lives, and reduce financial impacts. Reducing the Threat of Improvised Explosive Device Attacks by Restricting Access to Explosive Precursor Chemicals prioritizes precursor chemicals that can be used to make HMEs and analyzes the movement of those chemicals through United States commercial supply chains and identifies potential vulnerabilities. This report examines current United States and international regulation of the chemicals, and compares the economic, security, and other tradeoffs among potential control strategies.
Book Synopsis Explosive Pulsed Power by : Larry L. Altgilbers
Download or read book Explosive Pulsed Power written by Larry L. Altgilbers and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explosive pulsed power generators are devices that either convert the chemical energy stored in explosives into electrical energy or use the shock waves generated by explosives to release energy stored in ferroelectric and ferromagnetic materials. The objective of this book is to acquaint the reader with the principles of operation of explosive generators and to provide details on how to design, build, and test three types of generators: flux compression, ferroelectric, and ferromagnetic generators, which are the most developed and the most near term for practical applications. Containing a considerable amount of new experimental data that has been collected by the authors, this is the first book that treats all three types of explosive pulsed power generators. In addition, there is a brief introduction to a fourth type ix explosive generator called a moving magnet generator. As practical applications for these generators evolve, students, scientists, and engineers will have access to the results of a considerable body of experience gained by almost 10 years of intense research and development by the authors.
