Book excerpt: Abstract: The purpose of this study was to explore the impacts of acculturation on family functioning from the perspective of second-generation Mexican Americans. The researcher conducted qualitative interviews via Zoom video conferencing and telephone calls. Participants were second-generation Mexican Americans born in the United States who had at least one parental figure that was born in Mexico. All participants were between the age of 18-32 years old. Data collected demonstrated various acculturation differences and highlighted the generational acculturation gaps among respondents and their parents. Psychological well-being was impacted in several ways including increased anxiety, frustration, and depression. This study adds to the body of literature on acculturation and aims to assist social workers with developing more specific services to support Mexican Americans with respect to their acculturation differences.
