For the survey populations, a score was formulated from the results of each question in section two (attitude toward technology) and from section three (technology integration). The information provided in the three short answers offered additional insight to the participants' scores in the two sections of the survey. Findings indicated there were no significant differences in relationships between faculty and technology integration, and faculty and attitude toward technology integration. - Abstract.

These are innovations that instructors elsewhere may find directly accessible and adaptable. Taken as a set, this book is a case study of teaching innovation as a part of faculty culture. Through this mixed methods case study, the researcher sought to explore the impact that teachers' perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs have on classroom technology integration practices. It is anticipated that by gaining a better understanding of this complex relationship, there may be a greater appreciation for why more teachers are not using computer technology in ways advocated in the literature. Moreover, this may enable educators to facilitate a better alignment between research, practice, and beliefs in order to provide more effective ways of supporting and documenting teacher change. Results from this study showed that there is a strong positive relationship between computer efficacy, teacher efficacy, and the integration of classroom technology. Results also showed there is evidence that student-centered classroom approaches positively influence how what, and when teachers decide to integrate technology into their classrooms and curriculum. This was a qualitative study using case-study methodology and involved multiple (4) purposefully-selected faculty members who were studied at an in-depth level within the teaching context of their institution. Research questions that were addressed included: (1) What are the relative roles of intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors with respect to a faculty member’s investment in new skills related to the application of instructional technologies? (2) In what ways do faculty members approach the introduction of new instructional technologies into their overall set of professional responsibilities (research and publication, service, teaching, etc.)? (3) Do demographic factors (gender, age, etc.) influence faculty investment in the use of new instructional technologies? (4) To what extent do career-stage factors (pre/post tenure, retirement, etc.) influence faculty investment in the use of new instructional technologies? (5) In what ways do campus and departmental cultures influence motivational behavior with respect to the use of instructional technologies by individual faculty? The findings of this study reaffirmed previous studies, but also offer new insights into how faculty members balance the expanded use of increasingly complex instructional technologies within their professional goals and responsibilities. This study can be helpful to higher education leadership in the development of programs and reward structures that enhance the overall teaching and learning focus of faculty members at a time when instructional technologies are becoming more central to the business of higher education both nationally and globally.

Decades of qualitative study indicate that a majority of faculty continue to regard online education as inferior to traditional classroom learning. The growth of online learning has spurred the development of educational technologies and innovative pedagogical approaches to foster immersive online learning experiences. As faculty venture into this new educational paradigm, whether by choice or force, their attitudes about online education are slowly becoming more positive. The purpose of this study was to assess the attitudes of faculty and establish user profiles based on their innovativeness with regard to teaching with technology and online experience. These profiles were framed using Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations theory (2003) using cluster analysis. The results of this study indicate that faculty adoption-diffusion profiles are correlational to their attitudes toward online education. In addition, this study determined that online teaching experience is the strongest predictor of faculty attitudes and adoption-diffusion classifications. The results of this study suggest that institutions would benefit in analyzing their faculty innovation classifications to inform policy, technology purchasing decisions, and development offerings.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this case study was to understand the perceived change in educator attitudes from the pandemic concerning technology at Cornerstone School. The problem addressed in this study was the lack of motivation of educators to try new ways to use technology in their classrooms. The theory guiding this study was J. Bruner’s constructivist theory which focuses on obtaining knowledge through discovery. The connection between Bruner’s theory and the perceived change in teachers’ attitudes was that teachers learned technology through their use and discovery. A qualitative case study design was used to carry out this investigation. Ten educators were recruited using a typical purposeful sampling strategy; all were from a small private school. These included educators from the kindergarten through 11th-grade levels. The data were collected through a questionnaire followed by semi-structured individual interviews, an analysis of reflective journal prompts, and an analysis of artifacts. Findings revealed themes pertaining to the study’s purpose, including pre-pandemic attitudes toward technology, successful practices using technology during the pandemic, and post-pandemic attitudes toward technology. Confidence developed by the participants through the discovery of technology used confirmed Bruner’s theory that learning through discovery gave the participants a more positive attitude towards technology and influenced how the participants taught.

Many of the strategies we highlight emerge from a constructivist view of learning that has gained widespread acceptance in recent years. In this view, learners make sense of the world by forging connections between new ideas and those that are part of their existing knowledge base. For most students, that knowledge base is riddled with a host of naïve notions, misconceptions and alternative conceptions they have acquired throughout their lives. To a considerable extent, the job of the teacher is to coax out these ideas; to help students understand how their ideas differ from the scientifically accepted view; to assist as students restructure and reconcile their newly acquired knowledge; and to provide opportunities for students to evaluate what they have learned and apply it in novel circumstances. Clearly, this prescription demands far more than most college and university scientists have been prepared for.
