Book Synopsis Exploding Wires by : William G. Chace
Download or read book Exploding Wires written by William G. Chace and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is presented primarily to record the papers of the Conference on the Exploding Wire Phenomenon conducted by the Air Force Cambridge Research Center in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 2 and 3, 1959. A second and scarcely less important purpose of this book is to serve as a monograph on exploding wires. Nowhere in any language is there a book, or for that matter a section of a book, on electrical wire explosions. The growing interest in and import ance of the phenomenon was indicated by the very gratifying re sponse to the Confe: rence invitations. We hope this book, reaching an even larger audience, will fill a gap in the literature as well as serve as a record of the Conference. A logical arrangement of the papers was extremely difficult to accomplish. On whatever basis they were classified, most papers could have been equally well placed in more than one category. This difficulty was solved by arranging them in three broad classes. If this book is to serve as a monograph, some gene: ral back ground in the exploding wire phenomenon (EWP) is needed. The Introduction was written to serve this purpose. It is, of course, impossible to thank all those without whose help the Conference and this book would not have been possible.

Download or read book Investigations of the Exploding Wire Process as a Source for High Temperature Studies written by Esther C. Cassidy and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous experiments with electrically exploded wires are described. The results include time-resolved measurements of electrical energy, power, voltage, and current during * the discharge; periodic still and high-speed photographs of the entire explosion process; integrated and time-resolved measurements of the intensity and spectral distribution of the radiation emitted; and time-resolved absorption spectra from the products of the discharge, with emphasis on observations of the spectrum of the AlO molecule. The apparatus, instrumentation, and fast-measurement techniques developed in order to permit these direct experimental observations and measurements, under the extreme and transient conditions of the explosive discharge, are also described. Results from calculations of the composition, entropy, enthalpy, and density of the explosion mixture are given.(Author).

Download or read book Chain of Arcs as a Determining Factor in Explosion of Wires written by Jan Nasilowski and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents an idea for the uniform description of phenomena associated with electrical explosion of wires and electric fuses, based upon the fact of disintegration of wires into parts with definite spacing. In particular, observations concerned with pre-arcing energy, cutoff currents, peak voltages, and current pause are explained.
Book Synopsis The Electrical Behavior of Exploding Wires by : T. J. Tucker

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey of the electrical behavior of various metals exploded by a cable discharge system at a current density of approximately 4 x 107 amp/cm2 is described. Resistance versus inertia and resistance versus energy curves are presented for 17 pure metals and a number of alloys. The electrical behavior of gold alloys as a function of the percentage composition is discussed.

Download or read book The Electrical Behavior of Exploding Wires written by F. W. Neilson and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The experimental apparatus and techniques for studying exploding wires by means of a cable discharge system are described. The cable discharge system is shown to have the advantages of more accurate and easier interpretation of results and more accurate and easier instrumentation than the more commonly used capacitor discharge systems.

Download or read book Blast Effects written by Isabelle Sochet and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book compiles a variety of experimental data on blast waves. The book begins with an introductory chapter and proceeds to the topic of blast wave phenomenology, with a discussion on Rankine-Hugoniot equations and the Friedlander equation, used to describe the pressure-time history of a blast wave. Additional topics include arrival time measurement, the initiation of detonation by exploding wires, a discussion of TNT equivalency, and small scale experiments. Gaseous and high explosive detonations are covered as well. The topics and experiments covered were chosen based on the comparison of used scale sizes, from small to large. Each characteristic parameter of blast waves is analyzed and expressed versus scaled distance in terms of energy and mass. Finally, the appendix compiles a number of polynomial laws that will prove indispensable for engineers and researchers.
Book Synopsis Prevention of Hazardous Fires and Explosions by : V.E. Zarko
Download or read book Prevention of Hazardous Fires and Explosions written by V.E. Zarko and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Besides its obvious destructive potential, military R&D also serves to protect human lives, equipment and facilities against the effects of weapons. Concepts have therefore been developed that improve safety of stationary and mobile facilities against pressure waves, thermal radiation and fire. Effective, fast fire extinguishing equipment has been designed for tank compartments and motors. Closed buildings are demolished and landmines are removed with gas and dust explosions. Stringent safety requirements have been developed for the production of ammunition and explosives. Military and related industries have accumulated a vast knowledge and sophisticated experience that are very valuable in a variety of civil applications. The knowledge is based on theoretical and experimental research work, the origin of which sometimes dates back many centuries. It has often been classified and therefore has remained unknown to the civilian population, until now.
