Download or read book Aquareovirus written by Qin Fang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-09 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aquareoviruses cause infection in bony fish and shellfish and thus, constitute a significant threat to aquaculture industries worldwide. Aquareoviruses, belonging to the family Reoviridae, have genomes consisting of 11 segments of double-stranded RNA contained within a core (T = 1) surrounded by a double-layered icosahedral capsid with a T = 13 symmetry in general. These viruses not only physically resemble mammalian orthoreoviruses, but also show the highest amino acid identity. More than hundred aquareoviruses have been isolated from both saline water and freshwater origins; however, literary sources elucidating aquareovirus biology are very limited. Given the increasing pace of discovery, it is imperative to make a clear, systematic filing of key aspects of aquareoviruses. Therefore, the aim of writing this book is to provide insights into the molecular mechanisms of evolution, pathogenesis, and host response in aquareovirus infection. This book offers a state-of-the-art report on recent discoveries concerning the aquareovirus genome evolution, gene encoded protein functions, and pathogenesis by comparison with its sister genus Orthoreovirus, including avian and mammalian reoviruses. It mainly focuses on advances made over the past 30 years in research on the general and molecular biology, protein structure and function, infection and replication, epidemiology and diagnosis, immunological prevention and medical treatment, and host antiviral immunity against aquareovirus infection. This book will help curious graduate students or interested researchers acquire an overall picture of aquareovirus infection and pathogenesis, as well as yield benefits in fisheries to better prevent and control diseases caused by aquareovirus infection.

This second edition of the book will cover all virus families and the specific diseases relevant to aquaculture with current information delivered in a systematic and succinct way to the researcher, teacher, student, diagnostic laboratory staff, clinical veterinarian, aquaculture disease practitioner, farmer, and all people that are interested in viruses in general. - Provides unique, comprehensive information on animal pathogens and viruses found in aquaculture and fisheries - Presents high-quality illustrations of viral structure, diagrams of viral disease processes, gross pathology, and histopathology lesions to aid in understanding - Incorporates all updated changes in taxonomy since the first edition - Includes a new chapter on the impact of climate change on the manifestations of different aquatic animal viral diseases - Describes aquatic viruses of the major aquatic animals, fish, crustaceans, and mollusks
Book Synopsis Virus Infection and Tumorigenesis by : Xiaobo Zhang
Download or read book Virus Infection and Tumorigenesis written by Xiaobo Zhang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-14 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the latest research on the molecules and mechanisms of marine host stress responses to viral infections and tumorigenesis. It offers an overview of the state of the art in the field as well as future directions. Metabolism disorder is a characteristic of tumorigenesis. Since viruses complete their life cycle in host cells, such infections cause metabolic disorders in the host. As such, the mechanisms of virus pathogenesis and tumor progression are similar or even identical. In essence, the role of antiviral molecules is to maintain the metabolic homeostasis of infected host cells, and the antiviral molecules induced by virus infection may play an important role in antitumor pathways, resulting in cancer cell death or restoring the disordered metabolism of cancer cells. The molecules generated during host stress responses to viruses can also contribute to the antitumor mechanisms in humans. However, the relationship between host stress responses to virus infection and tumorigenesis has not been extensively explored. In recent years, studies have shown that marine host stress responses to viral invasion can be good models for exploring human antitumor mechanisms. Stimulating further research in the field, this book offers graduate students and researchers with comprehensive insights into host stress responses to viral invasion and tumor progression. It is also a valuable resource for those working in the pharmaceutical industry interested in drug discovery based on molecules derived from host stress responses to viral infection.
Book Synopsis Viruses of Lower Vertebrates by : Winfried Ahne
Download or read book Viruses of Lower Vertebrates written by Winfried Ahne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attention to viral infections and pathology previously focussed on diseases of economically important fish. In recent years, however, much new information on molecular virology and oncogenicity derives from viruses occurring in amphibians. New insights into the field of zoonosis were gained by studies of lower vertebrates serving as intermediate hosts in multiple human infections. Certain viruses, e.g. the influenza virus or calicivirus, seem capable of bridging species lines and even the land - sea interface. Global developments in aquaculture are indicated in influenza pandemics. These proceedings present research findings on viruses of fish, amphibians and reptiles, including defence mechanisms, zoonoses, evolutionary considerations and diagnostic approaches.
Book Synopsis Aquaculture and the Environment by : T. V. R. Pillay
Download or read book Aquaculture and the Environment written by T. V. R. Pillay and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aquaculture and the Environment Second Edition T. V. R. Pillay The continuing rapid increases in aquaculture production world-wide raise fears of further environmental degradation of the aquatic environment. The second edition of this well-received book brings together and discusses the available information on all major environmental aspects of various aquaculture systems, providing a valuable aid to the preparation of environmental impact assessments of aquaculture projects and showing how potential environmental problems can be reduced or mitigated by sound management. Much new information is presented in this new edition, including details of the impact of genetically modified food products and a new chapter on the sustainability of aquaculture, which covers the definitions of sustainability and responsible aquaculture, environmental, economic, social and ethical aspects of sustainability and the concept of ecotechnology in fish farming. Aquaculture and the Environment, Second Edition is essential reading for all personnel working on fish farms and for those moving into the aquatic farm business. Environmental scientists, ecologists, conservationists, fish and shellfish biologist and all those involved in the preservation of aquatic environments will find much of great use and interest within the covers of this book. Libraries in all universities and research establishments where these subjects are studied and taught should have copies of this excellent and useful book on their shelves. Dr T. V. R. Pillay was formerly Programme Director, Aquaculture Development and Coordination Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Download or read book Aquatic Invertebrate Cell Culture written by Carmel Mothersill and published by Springer. This book was released on 2000-09-25 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aquatic Invertebrate Cell Culture is a very new field which has major applications in Aquaculture, Ecotoxicology and Pathology. In essence it is realised that pathogens behave differently in host cells than the impression gained from growth on agar plates. Another major application of invertebrate cell culture is an understanding of mechanisms involved in cellular and molecular responses to environmental change. This book aims to consider all relevant advances for the development of aquatic invertebrate cell culture.
