Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electronics is essentially an experimental subject and enables a wealth of experimental work to be undertaken at relatively low cost. In any modestly equipped electrical engineering or physics laboratory. it is possible to plan interesting experiments to study active and passive com ponents, basic circuit functions, modular encapsulations and monolithic integrated circuits. The work may range from the formal investigation of a device new to the student to the design and construction of quite advanced, modern measurement and control systems. There are few books which guide experimental work in electronics. This text aims to rectify this by giving detailed descriptions of a series of experiments all of which have been thoroughly tested by students in physics, electronics, electrical engineering and instrumentation at The Polytechnic of Central London. Moreover, several of these experiments would seem to be appropriate for the current development of interest in courses in electronics in schools because several of them have been undertaken with considerable success by first-year sixth-form students who have come to Central London for special courses. They would also assist an introductory course in electronics for students from other disciplines and have been tried out in this way at The Polytechnic.

Book excerpt: Understanding DC Circuits covers the first half of a basic electronic circuits theory course, integrating theory and laboratory practice into a single text. Several key features in each unit make this an excellent teaching tool: objectives, key terms, self-tests, lab experiments, and a unit exam. Understanding DC Circuits is designed with the electronics beginner and student in mind. The authors use a practical approach, exposing the reader to the systems that are built with DC circuits, making it easy for beginners to master even complex concepts in electronics while gradually building their knowledge base of both theory and applications. Each chapter includes easy-to-read text accompanied by clear and concise graphics fully explaining each concept before moving onto the next. The authors have provided section quizzes and chapter tests so the readers can monitor their progress and review any sections before moving onto the next chapter. Each chapter also includes several electronics experiments, allowing the reader to build small circuits and low-cost projects for the added bonus of hands-on experience in DC electronics. Understanding DC Circuits fully covers dozens of topics including energy and matter; static electricity; electrical current; conductors; insulators; voltage; resistance; schematic diagrams and symbols; wiring diagrams; block diagrams; batteries; tools and equipment; test and measurement; series circuits; parallel circuits; magnetism; electromagnetism; inductance; capacitance; soldering techniques; circuit troubleshooting; basic electrical safety; plus much more. Integrates theory and lab experiments Contains course and learning objectives and self-quizzes Heavily illustrated

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, online technologies are at the core of most fields of engineering and society as a whole . This book discusses the fundamentals, applications and lessons learned in the field of online and remote engineering, virtual instrumentation, and other related technologies like Cross Reality, Data Science & Big Data, Internet of Things & Industrial Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, Cyber Security, and M2M & Smart Objects. Since the first Remote Engineering and Virtual Instrumentation (REV) conference in 2004, the event has focused on the use of the Internet for engineering tasks, as well as the related opportunities and challenges. In a globally connected world, interest in online collaboration, teleworking, remote services, and other digital working environments is rapidly increasing. In this context, the REV conferences discuss fundamentals, applications and experiences in the field of Online and Remote Engineering as well as Virtual Instrumentation. Furthermore, the conferences focus on guidelines and new concepts for engineering education in higher and vocational education institutions, including emerging technologies in learning, MOOCs & MOOLs, and open resources. This book presents the proceedings of REV2020 on “Cross Reality and Data Science in Engineering” which was held as the 17th in series of annual events. It was organized in cooperation with the Engineering Education Transformations Institute and the Georgia Informatics Institutes for Research and Education and was held at the College of Engineering at the University of Georgia in Athens (GA), USA, from February 26 to 28, 2020.
