Book Synopsis Academic Engagement by : David Perricone
Download or read book Academic Engagement written by David Perricone and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a long tradition of including experiential education in professional programs to enable students to transfer theoretical knowledge into practice. Most studies to date have focused on a faculty perspective of experiential learning. This study considers the students' and employers' views. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceived skills and abilities gained from experiential experiences within a sport management curriculum from both the students' and professionals' perspectives. The study was designed as a quantitative research project that obtained quantitative and qualitative data via a survey instrument. Data were obtained from online questionnaires completed by students (n = 18) enrolled in a sport management course that included an experiential learning project and their corresponding partners (n = 12). The instrument contained 23 items with responses on a Likert scale. Each item corresponded with one of the eight skills assessed in the study. The mean score of the corresponding items provided the score for each of the eight skills. A bootstrap and paired samples test was conducted to compare pre- and post-responses. In addition, an independent sample t-test was used to compare the students' experiential responses to the employers. Quantitative data were categorized accordingly. The results showed that students consistently rated themselves higher from pre- to post-experiential than employers rated them in all skills evaluated. (ProQuest abstract).
