This book was released on 1995-02-17 with total page 882 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the main goals of intermediate energy nuclear physics, which serves an important role as a bridge between nuclear and particle physics, is to construct the theory of strong interaction phenomena in terms of conventional degrees of freedom (nucleons, deltas and mesons) as well as of quark degrees of freedom. The main topics to be discussed at this conference are the interaction of pions and other mesons with nuclei at intermediate energies and the role of mesonic degrees of freedom in nuclear reactions, including photon, hadron and heavy ion induced reactions. Both theoretical and experimental results will be included.Over the past two decades, the Meson Factories, including LAMPF, TRIUMF, and PSI, have provided us with systematic experimental information on hadron-hadron and hadron-nucleus dynamics. Major accelerators of JINR are also suitable for studying problems in Intermediate Energy Nuclear Physics. At the present time, first experiments have been performed with the proton beams at the Moscow Meson Factory of INR. One of the purposes of this conference is to introduce the intermediate-energy physics community to the possibility of utilizing the facilities of JINR and INR during the next decade.

Book Synopsis The Response of Nuclei under Extreme Conditions by : R.A. Broglia

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, a new field of nuclear research has been opened through the possibility of studying nuclei wi\h very large values of angular momentum, temperature, pressure and number of particles. This development has been closely associated with heavy ion reactions, since collisions between two heavy nuclei are especially effective in producing metastable compound systems with large angular momentum, and in transferring energy which is distributed over the whole nuclear volume. Under the strain of temperature and of the Coriolis and centrifugal forces, the nucleus displays structural changes which can be interpreted in terms of pairing and shape phase transit ions. This was the subject of the lectures of J. D. Garrett, P. J. Twin and S. Levit. While the rotational motion is, at zero temperature un damped, the width of giant resonances indicate that the nucleus only oscillates through few periods before the motion is damp ed by particle decay, and through coupling to the compound nucleus. Temperature and angular momentum influence in an im portant way the properties of both giant resonances and rotatio nal motion. These subjects were developed by K. Snover, and by P. F. Bortignon and R. A. Broglia, as well as by A. Bracco, A. Dellafiore and F. Matera.

Book excerpt: From Sunday evening, April 5, until Thursday afternoon, April 9, 1992,49 scientists from 10 countries met at the Centro Stefano Franscini on Monte VeritA overlooking Ascona, in the state of Ticino in Switzerland, for an international workshop on Muonic Atoms and Molecules. More than two-thirds of the participants presented their results in talks of 20 to 40 minutes' duration. In addition, Prof. Gabriele Torelli gave, under the patronage of the Ministro del Ambiente of the state of Ticino, Dr. Mario Camani, a lecture in Italian entitled "Un modo insolito di studiare Ie proprieta nucleari, atomiche e chimiche". The scientific program commenced on Monday morning with discussions centering on nuclear muon capture and nuclear fusion and fission, moving on to muonic atom spectroscopy in the afternoon. All of Tuesday was devoted to muon catalyzed fusion and muon transfer. On Wednesday morning, different aspects of hot muonic atoms were discussed, followed by informal gatherings in the afternoon and evening. On Thursday morning we took a look at the prospects for the TRIUMF and PSI meson factories, and new experimental methods. The conference was brought to a close in the afternoon with C.P. summarizing the events of the past days. The two organizers want to thank all participants for their contributions and for the lively discussions which often followed the different talks.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 862 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Workshop on Physics at LEAR with Low Energy Cooled Anti protons was held in Erice, May 9 - 16, 1982, at the Ettore Majorana Centre for Scientific Culture, in the framework of the International School of Physics of Exotic Atoms. The Workshop was organized by a committee composed of R. Armenteros, D. Bugg, P. Dalpiaz, U. Gastaldi, K. Kilian, R. Klapisch, P. Lefevre, D. M6hl, S. Polikanov, B. Povh and J.M. Richard. It was attended by 101 physicists from 44 insti tutions and 14 countries, representing one third of the LEAR users. Thjs Workshop was the first general meeting of the LEAR commu nity after the approval of the CERN Low Energy Antiproton Ring faci lity and of the experiments scheduled there for the initial period of oper & tion. It was organized for three main purposes: (i) to review the field of low energy antiproton physics, the initial LEAR experimental programme and the status of preparation of the approved experiments; (ii) to review the facility and the progress in its construction, and to discuss the conditions of its operation; (iii) to discuss future developments of the facility and of the experi mental programme. These Proceedings contain the papers presented in Erice both orally and in the poster session, which displayed also contributions from colleagues who unfortunately could not attend the Workshop. The reports have been ordered in four sessions, following the pro gramme of the meeting. The CERN low energy antiproton facility is presented in Section I.

Download or read book Mesons and Light Nuclei ’95 written by J. Adam and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference Mesons and Light Nuclei, organized by the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP), Rez, was held during July 2 - 7, 1995 in small north Bohemian town Straz pod Ralskem. It was the sixth in a series of meetings which took place previously at Liblice 74 and 81, Bechyne 85 and 88, and Prague 91. The conferences gained already their firm position among intermediate energy nuclear physics activities. International nuclear physics community strongly supported our intention to continue the series. This year's venue for the conference was the accommodation and social area of the DIAMO company at Straz. The goal of the meeting was to summarize the present situation and the future perspectives concerning the experimental investigations and theoreti cal descriptions of light nuclei and their interactions with electromagnetic and hadronic probes, mainly at intermediate energies. The scientific program of the conference included the following areas of research: nuclear physics with pions and antiprotons, T)-meson physics, baryonic systems with strangeness, relativis tic few-body dynamics, and electroweak nuclear interaction. Representatives from many international groups working within different experimental facili ties and with different theoretical methods were invited and asked to present their latest results and future research programs. The Straz conference, attended by 102 physicist from institutions in 22 countries, was sponsored by the Austrian Ministry for Science and Research, Czech Ministry for Industry and Trade, and by SKODA PRAHA a.s. Thanks to this sponsorship we could also invite several participants and students at essentially reduced cost.

Book Synopsis Advances in Nuclear Dynamics by : Benito Arruñada
Download or read book Advances in Nuclear Dynamics written by Benito Arruñada and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of nuclear dynamics is now in one of its most interesting phases. The theory is in the process of establishing an increasingly reliable transport description of heavy ion reactions from the initial violent phase dominated by first collisions to the more thermalized later stages of the reaction. This is true for the low-to-medium energy reactions, where the dynamics is formulated in terms of nucleonic, or in general hadronic, degrees of freedom. And it is also becoming a reality in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion reactions, where partonic elementary degrees of freedom have to be used. Experiments are now able to 'utilize the existing accelerators and multiparticle detec tion systems to conduct unprecedented studies of heavy-ion collisions on an event-by-event basis. In addition, the field anticipates the completion of the construction of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and the proposed upgrade of the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory, promising qualitatively new data for the near future. All of these efforts are basically directed to the exploration of the change the nuclear medium provides for the properties and interactions of individual nucleons and, ultimately, the exploration of the nuclear matter phase diagram. The investigation of this phase dia gram, including all of the interesting phase transitions predicted from theoretical grounds, is the focus of most of the theoretical and experimental investigations of nuclear dynamics conducted today.
