Book excerpt: Le sujet porte sur une étude expérimentale de la décharge pointe-plan positive continue dans les gaz aux pressions inférieures à la pression atmosphérique, domaine de pressions ayant suscité peu de travaux. Cette étude permet une meilleure compréhension des phénomènes de décharge en champ non uniforme et des processus complexes conduisant à l'établissement des différents régimes de décharge. Une étude systématique du trace des caractéristiques courant-tension dans l'azote et l'air sec entre 0.75 et 760 Torr est réalisée. Corrélée à l'aspect visuel de la décharge, elle permet d'identifier deux régimes : un régime de décharge sombre (DS), caractérisé par une lueur au voisinage de la pointe, et un régime de décharge luminescente ou Glow, caractérisé par une luminosité de tout l'intervalle. L'influence de la distance inter-électrode et du matériau constituant le plan sont également présentée. L'étude optique du régime DS consiste à étudier à l'aide d'un photomultiplicateur la lumière émise par la lueur anodique et à suivre par spectroscopie d'émission deux têtes de bande du 2S + de l'azote. L'étude électrique porte sur le courant de décharge et son comportement en fonction des paramètres de décharge liés aux électrodes et au gaz. L'analyse détaillée des oscillations de courant observées dans le régime DS est menée en fonction des divers paramètres de la décharge. Une hypothèse basée sur la formation d'une double couche de Langmuir dans l'intervalle est proposée pour expliquer ce comportement oscillatoire. La transition du régime DS vers le Glow est étudié de facon analogue ainsi que le régime de Glow lui même. Cette analyse a permis de mettre en évidence la présence du régime de décharge sombre dans la totalité du domaine de pression étudié et d'envisager un modèle physique susceptible d'en expliquer le mécanisme et les modalités de la transition vers la décharge luminescente.
