Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than 50 years ago, in 1934, Chadwick and Goldhaber (ChG 34) published a paper entitled "A 'Nuclear Photo-effect': Disintegration of the Diplon by -y-Rays."l in the introduction: They noted "By analogy with the excitation and ionisation of atoms by light, one might expect that any complex nucleus should be excited or 'ionised', that is, disintegrated, by -y-rays of suitable energy", and furthermore: "Heavy hydrogen was chosen as the element first to be examined, because the diplon has a small mass defect and also because it is the simplest of all nuclear systems and its properties are as important in nuclear theory as the hydrogen is in atomic theory". Almost at the same time, in 1935, the first theoretical paper on the photodisinte gration of the deuteron entitled "Quantum theory of the diplon" by Bethe and Peierls (BeP 35) appeared. It is not without significance that these two papers mark the be ginning of photonuclear physics in general and emphasize in particular the special role the two-body system has played in nuclear physics since then and still plays. A steady flow of experimental and theoretical papers on deuteron photo disintegration and its inverse reaction, n-p capture, shows the continuing interest in this fundamental process (see fig. 1.1).

Book Synopsis Modern Topics in Electron Scattering by : Bernard Frois
Download or read book Modern Topics in Electron Scattering written by Bernard Frois and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991 with total page 832 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the considerable progress recently achieved in the understanding of nucleon and nuclear structure by using high energy electrons as a probe. A collection of papers discusses in detail the new frontiers of this field. Experimental and theoretical articles cover topics such as the structure of the nucleon, nucleon distributions, many-body correlations, non-nucleonic degrees of freedom and few-body systems. This book is an up-to-date introduction to the research planned with continuous beam electron accelerators.

This book was released on 1989-03-01 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to Prof H Miyazawa in commemoration of his 60th birthday. He is an outstanding particle physicist who gave an original idea on nuclear magnetic moments and has led the frontier of particle physics. Here is a historical survey featuring the stress on phenomenologies in particle physics. It should be of interest to experimental physicists also.

Download or read book Few body dynamics written by Asoke Mitra and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few Body Dynamics presents the proceedings of the VII International Conference on Few Body Problems in Nuclear and Particle Physics, held in Delhi from December 29, 1975 to January 3, 1976. Invited speakers talked about topics ranging from dynamic equations and approximation methods to computation and experimental techniques, few body bound states, breakup reactions and polarization, few electron systems, and photon and electron probes on few body systems. Speakers also covered few body reactions with mesons and resonances, few body aspects of nuclear reactions and scattering, three body forces in nuclei, and quark physics. Comprised of four parts encompassing 145 chapters, this volume summarizes the status and results from experimental facilities such as the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in India, TRIUMF in Canada, and the Clinton P. Anderson Meson Physics Facility in the United States. It also discusses completeness relations in scattering theory for non-Hermitian potentials, ambiguities in phase-shift analysis, and parametrization of the half-shell function when the eigenchannel has a bound state. The next chapters focus on possible phenomenological forms for the two-body local potential, nuclear three-body forces arising from triple-boson couplings, and concepts such as N-particle transit operators, three-body separable expansion amplitude, the three-body problem with energy-dependent potentials, and the four-body problem. The book also introduces the reader to triton with realistic potentials, backward proton-deuteron scattering, and deep inelastic lepton-nucleon interactions at high energy. This book will benefit physicists, students, and researchers who want to learn about the dynamics of few body systems.

This book was released on 1991-07-22 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an introductory textbook on amorphous magnets for students and scientists in physics and materials science. Basic physical arguments are given and experimental data are systematically collected and discussed. The book deals mostly with the qualitative and semiquantitative aspects of materials that can be deduced, in a relatively simple way, from the fundamental equations of solid state physics.
