According to the experts, the major thrust of test development in the next decade will be the harnessing of item generation technology to the production of computer developed tests. This is expected to revolutionize the way in which tests are constructed and delivered. This book is a compilation of the papers presented at a symposium held at ETS in Princeton, attended by the world's foremost experts in item-generation theory and practice. Its goal is to present the major applications of cognitive principles in the construction of ability, aptitude, and achievement tests. It is an intellectual contribution to test development that is unique, with great potential for changing the ways tests are generated. The intended market includes professional educators and psychologists interested in test generation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of androgen excess disorders has advanced substantially since the original publication of this book. The Androgen Excess Society (AES) was founded to bring together investigators in the field. A better understanding of the screening, progression, and molecular genetics of nonclassic adrenal hyperplasia (NCAH) has improved the clinical care and diagnostic accuracy of these patients. New criteria for the diagnosis of the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) were proposed in Rotterdam, criteria that have resulted in controversy and, hopefully, initiation of new studies. The association of insulin resistance with PCOS has been strengthened, and the role of metformin in tre- ing the infertility of the PCOS has been validated. Risks for diabetes and, more cont- versially, cardiovascular disease in women with PCOS have received substantial investigation. Our understanding of the epidemiology and economic impact of these disorders has expanded, emphasizing their critical importance. These are but a few highlights of how the terrain has changed in a relatively brief period of time. In keeping with these advances, the title of this book has been revised to reflect the growing importance of PCOS as the most prevalent androgen excess disorder in women, and arguably, as the one that might have the most serious adverse consequences for general health. There are fewer chapters to provide a more focused elucidation of the area. Several chapters were penned by new (and young) authors who are conducting cutting-edge research in the field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and often disabling disease of the nervous system, affecting about 1 million people worldwide. Even though it has been known for over a hundred years, no cause or cure has yet been discovered-but now there is hope. New therapies have been shown to slow the disease progress in some patients, and the pace of discoveries about the cellular machinery of the brain and spinal cord has accelerated. This book presents a comprehensive overview of multiple sclerosis today, as researchers seek to understand its processes, develop therapies that will slow or halt the disease and perhaps repair damage, offer relief for specific symptoms, and improve the abilities of MS patients to function in their daily lives. The panel reviews existing knowledge and identifies key research questions, focusing on: Research strategies that have the greatest potential to understand the biological mechanisms of recovery and to translate findings into specific strategies for therapy. How people adapt to MS and the research needed to improve the lives of people with MS. Management of disease symptoms (cognitive impairment, depression, spasticity, vision problems, and others). The committee also discusses ways to build and financially support the MS research enterprise, including a look at challenges inherent in designing clinical trials. This book will be important to MS researchers, research funders, health care advocates for MS research and treatment, and interested patients and their families.

This book was released on 2015-11-18 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity is one of the most popular subjects of debate in the world today. In this book, Dr. Ward directs the debate to the Bible itself. He contends that the core of the biblical revelation of Christ has been overlooked, ignored and even dismissed throughout thousands of years of Church history. He challenges us to look deeper into the Scripture and discover what it means that Jesus is Christ. As many precious gifts come in a small package, Christ is identified in the Bible with one small, five letter word used in its metaphysical context only four times in only one chapter of the New Testament. In the beginning was the Logos and the Logos was with God and the Logos was God…and the Logos became flesh and dwelt among us (Jn. 1:1, 14). As Dr. Ward demonstrates, once we have a grasp of the meaning of this single Word, it acts like a secret code unlocking the vision of the Big Picture, Grand Design God intended when he inspired John to write his Gospel. Unfortunately, few Christians today know anything about the Great Conversation of philosophical thought that John adopted at the core of his God-Story. Dr. Ward invites us into our own personal psychological encounter with a here-and-now renaissance Return to Antiquity, joining the Church Fathers who dedicated their lives to the depth of this expansive vision. Open your mind to revision and redefine your faith. Let the big “T” Truth transform your mind, heal your wounds and open your heart to this wonderful heritage at the root of the great Christian tradition—From Glory to Glory!
