Book excerpt: Excerpt from Evolution and the Immanent God: An Essay on the Natural Theology of Evolution Science and Religion, or rather, Science and Theology, have, since the time of the German Reformation, when for the first time such a conflict became possible, been continually ar rayed, the one against the other. Indeed, before that time, although their activity was by definition restricted to differ ent and separate spheres, Theology having to do with the higher sphere - the Kingdom of Grace - as distinguished from the lower sphere, the Kingdom of Nature - the proper domain of Science, they frequently came into collision, and Theology often felt constrained to invoke the aid of the Church's anathemas to hinder the circulation and acceptance of teachings of Science which seemed to it to imperil the integrity of the current dog matic system. Book Synopsis God After Darwin by : John F. Haught
Download or read book God After Darwin written by John F. Haught and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In God After Darwin, eminent theologian John F. Haught argues that the ongoing debate between Darwinian evolutionists and Christian apologists is fundamentally misdirected: Both sides persist in focusing on an explanation of underlying design and order in the universe. Haught suggests that what is lacking in both of these competing ideologies is the notion of novelty, a necessary component of evolution and the essence of the unfolding of the divine mystery. He argues that Darwin's disturbing picture of life, instead of being hostile to religion-as scientific skeptics and many believers have thought it to be-actually provides a most fertile setting for mature reflection on the idea of God. Solidly grounded in scholarship, Haught's explanation of the relationship between theology and evolution is both accessible and engaging. The second edition of God After Darwin features an entirely new chapter on the ongoing, controversial debate between intelligent design and evolution, including an assessment of Haught's experience as an expert witness in the landmark case of Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District on teaching evolution and intelligent design in schools.

This book was released on 2012-04-23 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did gods create mankind, or did mankind create gods? Why, when and how did mankind begin to worship gods? Religious scriptures the world over claim that one or the other god made man, but science has not yet identified any supernatural power that created and governed human beings. Was it man who came up with the idea of gods to help him cope with his own fears? Could it be that ancient people attributed natural phenomena-unfathomable and frightening to them-to the working of invisible gods? What kind of sufferings or bewilderments made people bow before unseen powers or gods as we call them? When were these gods created? Who invented morals and methods of worship? Who wrote the ancient scriptures such as the Bible and the Vedas? Most crucially, have gods and the scriptures shaped our responses to the world around us? The Evolution of Gods seeks to answer these questions, and explains scientifically how, when and why religions and gods came into being. Ajay Kansal marshals anthropological and historical facts about the development of religions in a simple and straightforward manner to assert that it was mankind that created gods, and not the other way around.

The authors call their new position Evolutionary Pluralism. By combining the Christian faith with modern science and the global growth of religious diversity, Evolutionary Pluralism provides Christians with an alternative to current interpretations such as Young Earth Creationism, Old Earth Creationism, Intelligent Design Creationism, and Evolutionary Creationism. This new understanding stands solidly within the history and traditions of the Christian faith and builds on the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.
Book Synopsis The Evolution of God by : Robert Wright
Download or read book The Evolution of God written by Robert Wright and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2009-06-08 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this sweeping narrative that takes us from the Stone Age to the Information Age, Robert Wright unveils an astonishing discovery: there is a hidden pattern that the great monotheistic faiths have followed as they have evolved. Through the prisms of archaeology, theology, and evolutionary psychology, Wright's findings overturn basic assumptions about Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and are sure to cause controversy. He explains why spirituality has a role today, and why science, contrary to conventional wisdom, affirms the validity of the religious quest. And this previously unrecognized evolutionary logic points not toward continued religious extremism, but future harmony. Nearly a decade in the making, The Evolution of God is a breathtaking re-examination of the past, and a visionary look forward.
Book Synopsis God, Evolution & Science by : William Stolzman
Download or read book God, Evolution & Science written by William Stolzman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-04-23 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God, Evolution & Science: How Our World Evolved from God presents a new approach for linking God, energy, and our material world in an evolutionary way. Energy is conservative, and it exists in two forms: potential and kinetic. Scientists have well established that our physical world began as a singular, kinetic "Big Bang." Consequently, before that event, there had to exist a singular, potential, energetic reality, which I name the "Almighty." This potential reality is forward-leaning and thus has the unidirectional dimension of time, which must also be quantized. Since energy is oriented toward establishing systems, the Almighty must also have a systemic aspect. The author establishes that evolution is not only biological but logical. He shows how from the Almighty logically evolved a quantized, bidirectional, four-dimensional field. By progressively breaking the symmetries of this field, he is able to show how the four forces of physics logically evolved. He subsequently shows how our world as we observe it today logically evolved from the Almighty. Whether this Almighty is impersonal or personal is discussed at length. Finally, the author also shows that beyond the entropic decay of our world, our physical world will end a "Big Collapse." Nonetheless, because energy is conservative and eternal, the author shows how there remains the logistical possibility of a transcendentally evolved afterlife in the Almighty.
