Book excerpt: Foram concluidos experimentos em casa de vegetacao e campo, no ano agricola de 1983/84, objetivando verificar a resposta das variedades de soja UFV-1, UFV-5 e Santa Rosa aos herbicidas metribuzin (4-amino-6-tert-butil-3-(metiltio)-as-triazina-5(4H)-ona) e diuron (3-(3,4-diclorofenil) 1,1 dimetilureia. No experimento conduzido em casa de vegetacao, foram utilizados os solos Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo, proveniente de Vicosa-MG, Latossolo Roxo e Terra roxa Estruturada, oriundos de Ponta Pora-MS, e as dosagens 0, 240, 336, 432 e 520 g i.a./ha de metribuzin, 0,0; 1,0; 2,0; 2,5; e 3,0 kg i.a./ha de diuron. No experimento de campo, instalado em um Podzolico Vermelho-Amarelo, em Coimbra-MG, utilizaram-se as dosagens 240, 336, 432 e 528 g i.a./ha de metribuzin, 0,5; 1,0; 1,5 e 2,0 kg i.a./ha de diuron, alem de um tratamento adicional "testemunha capinada". As principais plantas daninhas que ocorreram no experimento de campo foram: capim-marmelada [Brachiaria plantaginea (Link) A.S. Hitchc.BRAPL], grama-seda [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. CYNDA], poaia-do-campo [Borreria alata (Aubl.) DC. BOILF], botao-de-ouro [Calinsoga parviflora (Cav.) GASPA], carrapichinho [Acanthospermum australe (Locf.) Ktze-ACNAU] e serralha [Emilia sonchifolia (L.) DC. EMISO], tendo capim-marmelada e grama-seda representado 83% da fitomassa daninha. Não houve diferenca da tolerancia entre as variedades de soja ao metribuzin, mas as variedades UFV-1 e UFV-5 foram mais tolerantes ao diuron que a variedade Santa Rosa. Houve maior tolerancia das plantas de soja ao metribuzin e diuron na Terra Roxa Estruturada e menor no Latossolo Vermelho-amarelo. Em condicoes de campo, nenhuma dosagem de metribuzin causou fitotoxicidade as variades de soja, mas as dosagem 2,0 kg i.a./ha de diuron foi fitotoxica as tres variedades, reduzindo o numero final de plantas, altura de insercao da primeira vagem e altura da planta e producao de graos. Entretanto, os caracteres nemero inicial de plantas, vigor de plantulas, plantulas normais, plantulas anormais e sementes mortas não foram afetados pelos dois hebicidas. As dosagens 336, 432 e 528 g i.a./ha de metribuzin e 1,5 kg i.a./ha de diuron proporcionaram eficiente controle das plantas daninhas, exceto grama seda que não foi controlada pelos dois herbicidas, bem como maiores producoes de graos. Tambem esssas dosagens proporcionaram maior altura de planta e producao de graos em relacao a "testemunha capinada". A competicao das plantas daninha com a soja promoveu aumento na altura de insercao da primeira vagem, na altura da planta e reducao na producao de graos e peso de sementes.
