Book Synopsis Aircraft Handling Qualities by : MS. John Hodgkinson
Download or read book Aircraft Handling Qualities written by MS. John Hodgkinson and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 1999 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a readable introduction to handling qualities, the combination of pilot acceptability and piloted performance with stability and control. It adopts the analytical and qualitative standpoints needed for handling qualities analysis and design of fixed-wing aircraft. Although there are several texts on stability and control, until now none has provided insight into the piloting concerns that have affected the success of recent fly-by-wire aircraft developments.

Book Synopsis Mission-oriented Requirements for Updating MIL-H-8501: Calspan Proposed Structure and Rationale by :
Download or read book Mission-oriented Requirements for Updating MIL-H-8501: Calspan Proposed Structure and Rationale written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents the effort by Arvin/Calspan Corporation to formulate a revision of MIL-H-8501A in terms of Mission-Oriented Flying Qualities Requirements for Military Rotorcraft. Emphasis is placed on development of a specification structure which will permit addressing Operational Missions and Flight Phases, Flight Regions, Classification of Required Operational Capability, Categorization of Flight Phases, and Levels of Flying Qualities. A number of definitions are established to permit addressing the rotorcraft state, flight envelopes, environments, and the conditions under which degraded flying qualities are permitted. Tentative requirements are drafted for Required Operational Capability Class I. Also included is a Background Information and Users Guide for the draft specification structure proposed for the MIL-H-8501A revision. The report also contains a discussion of critical data gaps and attempts to prioritize these data gaps and to suggest experiments that should be performed to generate data needed to support formulation of quantitative design criteria for the additional Operational capability Classes II, III, and IV.

Book Synopsis Helicopter Test and Evaluation by : Alastair Cooke
Download or read book Helicopter Test and Evaluation written by Alastair Cooke and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-02-12 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although a number of texts on helicopter aerodynamics have been written, few have explained how the various theories concerning rotorborne flight underpin practical flight test and evaluation. This book combines theoretical information on aerodynamics, stability, control and performance with details of evaluation methodologies and practical guidance on the conduct of helicopter flight tests. For each topic the relevant theory is explained briefly and followed by details of the practical aspects of testing a conventional helicopter. These include: * safety considerations * planning the tests * the most efficient way to conduct individual flights Where possible typical test results are presented and discussed. The book draws on the authors' extensive experience in flight test and flight test training and will appeal not only to professionals working in the area of rotorcraft test and evaluation, but also to helicopter pilots, rotorcraft designers and manufacturers and final year undergraduates of aeronautical engineering
Book Synopsis Cockpit Displays: Test and Evaluation by : Richard L. Newman

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cockpit Displays is an in-depth examination of the design rationales, test philosophy and test procedures for cockpit systems. Whilst its main emphasis is on cockpit displays, it also includes an important discussion of flight management systems and mission computers. Areas covered include: the cockpit design process, test techniques for flight displays and equipment, and situation awareness testing. Comparing civil and military requirements, it is an important analysis of the lessons learned from test and evaluation and will be of interest to cockpit systems design engineering staff at major airframe manufacturers, procurement executives and program managers at military aircraft program offices and flight test engineers and test pilots.
