Ces techniques, déjà développées et appliquées aux matériaux métalliques, sont basées sur la détection de l'échauffement généré dans un matériau mis en vibration en conséquence des effets viscoélastiques et des frottements des fissures. Dans la première partie du manuscrit, une technique de type CND est développée pour analyser l'endommagement diffus d'un composite tissé et pour déterminer une relation entre son état d'endommagement et son comportement thermique. Cette partie est aussi importante pour la compréhension des phénomènes qui gouvernent la vibrothermographie grâce à une première estimation des sources thermiques en jeu. Dans la deuxième partie, la vibrothermographie est appliquée à l'étude du comportement en fatigue et pour une estimation d'une limite de fatigue des composites tissés. Cette estimation diffère de l'approche mécanique classique reposant sur l'exploitation des courbes S-N parce qu'elle est effectuée en utilisant un seul échantillon et de manière beaucoup plus rapide. Elle pourra être utilisée pour mieux comprendre l'endommagement en fatigue des matériaux et pour aider les ingénieurs dans le dimensionnement des structures soumises à ce type de sollicitation.

Book excerpt: La sensibilité des structures composites à la présence d'endommagements importants en zones singulières (trou, pointe d'entaille, ...) impose d'évaluer leur tolérance aux dommages. Dans ce contexte, ce travail s'attache à apporter des précisions quantitatives sur l'endommagement de ces structures à partir de la technique de thermographie infrarouge. Une première étude a été consacrée à la caractérisation des mécanismes de dégradation d'un stratifié tissé mince (verre/époxyde) sous sollicitations homogènes. En s'appuyant sur une approche calorimétrique locale, régie par le cadre de la Thermodynamique des Processus Irréversibles, les mesures thermiques sont utilisées pour localiser et quantifier les dissipations associées aux différents mécanismes de dégradation. Une démarche expérimentale est alors proposée pour évaluer le taux de restitution d'énergie dans plusieurs cas de fissuration. Dans un second temps, cette démarche est appliquée à l'étude de la fissuration de structures stratifiées constituées de plis unidirectionnels sous chargement de traction, puis de compression.

Book excerpt: Le comportement en fluage et l'identification des mécanismes d'endommagement de matériaux composites verre/polyester unidirectionnels, à plis croisés et SMC (sheet molding compound) sont étudiés in situ par émission acoustique (EA) et ultrasons. L'analyse des signaux d'EA a permis pour certains matériaux d'identifier les mécanismes d'endommagement. Le suivi des propriétés mécaniques en fluage à travers des mesures de vitesses ultrasonores a été effectué. La perte de rigidité observée et sa bonne corrélation avec l'EA témoigne de la capacité des deux méthodes à suivre l'endommagement et conforte l'idée d'une approche globale pour le contrôle santé des matériaux. Par ailleurs, nous avons observé lors du fluage primaire une relaxation en loi de puissance (loi d'Andrade) pour le taux de déformation et pour le taux d'EA (loi d'Omori). Le fluage tertiaire quant à lui, est caractérisé par une singularité en loi de puissance des taux de déformation et d'EA culminant avec la rupture globale des matériaux. Des corrélations intéressantes ont été observées entre certains paramètres des fluages primaire et tertiaire, notamment entre le temps de rupture tc et le temps de transition fluage primaire, secondaire et fluage tertiaire tm. Ce résultat important montre les liens entre les deux régimes et permet d'envisager un moyen de prédiction de la rupture. Ces résultats expérimentaux sont étayés par un modèle dérivé du modèle démocratique des fibres dit DFBM (Democratic fibre bundle model) ou le matériau est représenté par une série d'éléments constitués d'un ressort monté en parallèle avec un amortisseur de viscosité non linéaire de type Eyring. Ce modèle permet d'expliquer la corrélation entre tc et tm et permet de retrouver les relaxations en loi d'Andrade dans le fluage primaire et la singularité en loi de puissance dans le fluage tertiaire avec des exposants critiques du même ordre que ceux observés expérimentalement

La démarche mise en oeuvre consiste à examiner deux échelles significatives (Microet Meso) auxquelles agissent des mécanismes d'endommagement différents et à évaluer pardes techniques d'homogénéisation l'effet sur les propriétés thermiques effectives.Une attention particulière a été donnée à l'élaboration d'une démarche expérimentale approfondieassociant des moyens de caractérisation mécanique, thermique et microstructurale. Aux deuxéchelles étudiées, un banc expérimental a été conçu pour réaliser des mesures thermiques sur des CMC sollicités mécaniquement. La diffusivité thermique longitudinale du mini composite est estimée par thermographie à détection synchrone. Des variantes de la méthode flash en face arrière sont mises en oeuvre pour l'étude du composite tissé. Par ailleurs, la progression de l'endommagementest déduite de l'enregistrement des signaux acoustiques et d'observations microstructurales post-mortem. Les résultats expérimentaux sont systématiquement comparés à des simulations. A l'échelle Micro, un modèle micromécanique est proposé afin de simuler la perte de conductivité thermique d'un mini composite en traction. A l'échelle Méso, une stratégie multiéchelle de calcul numérique de l'effet de l'endommagement sur les propriétés thermiques d'un CMC tissé est présentée.
