Book Synopsis Evaluation of Unpainted Weathering Steel Bridges in Idaho by : Richard A. Jobes
Download or read book Evaluation of Unpainted Weathering Steel Bridges in Idaho written by Richard A. Jobes and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some states have reported problems with excessive corrosion of unpainted A588 weathering steel bridges. Considerable savings in initial and life cycle costs are anticipated when using weathering steel, but only if good long range performance is attained. The Idaho Transportation Department conducted its first in-depth study of a representative group of 12 weathering steel bridges to determine their present condition. Weathering steels develop a protective oxide coating that shields the underlying steel base from further corrosion when certain conditions are met. All weathering steel bridges in Idaho were identified and current inspection reports were reviewed. Data collected from the field inspections include: visual observations of the condition of the protective oxide coating (color, texture, adherence), conditions and details that cause corrosion problems, and plate thickness measurements with an ultrasonic gage. Samples of the oxide coating were tested for chlorides.

This book was released on 2023-01-25 with total page 722 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Finite Element Analysis and Design of Steel and Steel-Concrete Composite Bridges is brought fully up-to-date and provides structural engineers, academics, practitioners, and researchers with a detailed, robust, and comprehensive combined finite modeling and design approach. The book's eight chapters begin with an overview of the various forms of modern steel and steel-concrete composite bridges, current design codes (American, British, and Eurocodes), nonlinear material behavior of the bridge components, and applied loads and stability of steel and steel-concrete composite bridges. This is followed by self-contained chapters concerning design examples of steel and steel-concrete composite bridge components as well as finite element modeling of the bridges and their components. The final chapter focuses on finite element analysis and the design of composite highway bridges with profiled steel sheeting. This volume will serve as a valuable reference source addressing the issues, problems, challenges, and questions on how to enhance the design of steel and steel-concrete composite bridges, including highway bridges with profiled steel sheeting, using finite element modeling techniques. - Provides all necessary information to understand relevant terminologies and finite element modeling for steel and composite bridges - Discusses new designs and materials used in highway and railway bridge - Illustrates how to relate the design guidelines and finite element modeling based on internal forces and nominal stresses - Explains what should be the consistent approach when developing nonlinear finite element analysis for steel and composite bridges - Contains extensive case studies on combining finite element analysis with design for steel and steel-concrete composite bridges, including highway bridges with profiled steel sheeting

Book Synopsis Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel by : Terri Meyer Boake
Download or read book Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel written by Terri Meyer Boake and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2015-02-17 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the means for a better control and purposeful consideration of the design of Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS). It deploys a detailed categorization of AESS and its uses according to design context, building typology and visual exposure. In a rare combination, this approach makes high quality benchmarks compatible with economies in terms of material use, fabrication methods, workforce and cost. Building with exposed steel has become more and more popular worldwide, also as advances in fire safety technology have permitted its use for building tasks under stringent fire regulations. On her background of long standing as a teacher in architectural steel design affiliated with many institutions, the author ranks among the world‘s best scholars on this topic. Among the fields covered by the extensive approach of this book are the characteristics of the various categories of AESS, the interrelatedness of design, fabrication and erection of the steel structures, issues of coating and protection (including corrosion and fire protection), special materials like weathering steel and stainless steel, the member choices and a connection design checklist. The description draws on many international examples from advanced contemporary architecture, all visited and photographed by the author, among which figure buildings like the Amgen Helix Bridge in Seattle, the Shard Observation Level in London, the New York Times Building and the Arganquela Footbridge.
