Download or read book Evaluating Oral, Non-combustible Potential Reduced Exposure Products Marketed to Smokers written by Caroline Oates Cobb and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Potential reduced exposure products (PREPs) are marketed to reduce smoking's harm, despite little information concerning their effects. This study adapts previously reported clinical laboratory methods used to evaluate combustible PREPs to investigate the acute effects of four non-combustible PREPs (Ariva, Camel Snus, Marlboro Snus, Commit nicotine lozenge) relative to own brand cigarettes, sham smoking, and one combustible PREP that delivers no measurable nicotine (Quest). Twenty-eight smokers participated in 7 Latin-squared ordered, 2.5-hr sessions in which each product was administered twice (60-minute inter-administration interval). Sessions differed by product and were separated by > 48 hours. Plasma nicotine, heart rate, expired air carbon monoxide (CO), and subjective effects were assessed. Relative to own brand, non-combustible PREPs decreased nicotine and CO exposure, did not suppress abstinence symptoms fully, and were less acceptable. These short-term clinical laboratory methods are reliable and provide valuable information concerning non-combustible PREPs for smokers.

This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sugar replacement in food and beverage manufacture no longer hasjust an economic benefit. The use of ingredients to improve thenutritional status of a food product is now one of the majordriving forces in new product development. It is thereforeimportant, as options for sugar replacement continue to increase, that expert knowledge and information in this area is readilyavailable. Sweeteners and Sugar Alternatives in Food Technologyprovides the information required for sweetening and functionalsolutions, enabling manufacturers to produce processed foods thatnot only taste and perform as well as sugar-based products, butalso offer consumer benefits such as calorie reduction, dentalhealth benefits, digestive health benefits and improvements in longterm disease risk through strategies such as dietary glycaemiccontrol. Part I of this comprehensive book addresses these healthand nutritional considerations. Part II covers non-nutritive,high-intensity sweeteners, providing insights into blendingopportunities for qualitative and quantitative sweetnessimprovement as well as exhaustive application opportunities. PartIII deals with reduced calorie bulk sweeteners, which offer bulkwith fewer calories than sugar, and includes both the commerciallysuccessful polyols as well as tagatose, an emerging functional bulksweetener. Part IV looks at the less well-established sweetenersthat do not conform in all respects to what may be considered to bestandard sweetening properties. Finally, Part V examines bulkingagents and multifunctional ingredients. Summary tables at the endof each section provide valuable, concentrated data on each of thesweeteners covered. The book is directed at food scientists andtechnologists as well as ingredients suppliers.

Book Synopsis Scientific Standards for Studies on Modified Risk Tobacco Products by : Institute of Medicine
Download or read book Scientific Standards for Studies on Modified Risk Tobacco Products written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-04-19 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smoking-related diseases kill more Americans than alcohol, illegal drugs, murder and suicide combined. The passage of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2009 gave the FDA authority to regulate "modified risk tobacco products" (MRTPs), tobacco products that are either designed or advertised to reduce harm or the risk of tobacco-related disease. MRTPs must submit to the FDA scientific evidence to demonstrate the product has the potential to reduce tobacco related harms as compared to conventional tobacco products. The IOM identifies minimum standards for scientific studies that an applicant would need to complete to obtain an order to market the product from the FDA.
Book Synopsis Social Marketing and Social Change by : R. Craig Lefebvre
Download or read book Social Marketing and Social Change written by R. Craig Lefebvre and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-01-18 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we facilitate more effective, efficient, equitable and sustainable solutions to the problems that confound our communities and world? Social marketing guru R. Craig LeFebvre weaves together multi-level theories of change, research and case studies to explain and illustrate the development of social marketing to address some of society’s most vexing problems. The result is a people-centered approach that relies on insight and empathy as much as on data for the inspiration, design and management of programs that strive for changes for good. This text is ideal for students and professionals in health, nonprofit, business, social services, and other areas. “This is it -- the comprehensive, brainy road map for tackling wicked social problems. It’s all right here: how to create and innovate, build and implement, manage and measure, scale up and sustain programs that go well beyond influencing individual behaviors, all the way to broad social change in a world that needs the help.”—Bill Novelli, Professor, McDonough School of Business, Georgetown University, former CEO, AARP and founder, Porter Novelli and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids “I’m unaware of a more substantive treatise on social marketing and social change. Theoretically based; pedagogically focused; transdisciplinary; innovative; and action oriented: this book is right for our time, our purpose, and our future thinking and action.”—Robert Gold, MS, PhD, Professor of Public Health and Former Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Maryland, College Park “This book -- like its author -- is innovative and forward-looking, yet also well-grounded in the full range of important social marketing fundamentals.”—Edward Maibach, MPH, PhD, University Professor and Director, Center for Climate Change Communication, George Mason University
