Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores and brings together the existent body of knowledge on building performance analysis Shortlisted in the CIBSE 2020 Building Performance Awards Building performance is an important yet surprisingly complex concept. This book presents a comprehensive and systematic overview of the subject. It provides a working definition of building performance, and an in-depth discussion of the role building performance plays throughout the building life cycle. The book also explores the perspectives of various stakeholders, the functions of buildings, performance requirements, performance quantification (both predicted and measured), criteria for success, and the challenges of using performance analysis in practice. Building Performance Analysis starts by introducing the subject of building performance: its key terms, definitions, history, and challenges. It then develops a theoretical foundation for the subject, explores the complexity of performance assessment, and the way that performance analysis impacts on actual buildings. In doing so, it attempts to answer the following questions: What is building performance? How can building performance be measured and analyzed? How does the analysis of building performance guide the improvement of buildings? And what can the building domain learn from the way performance is handled in other disciplines? Assembles the current body of knowledge on building performance analysis in one unique resource Offers deep insights into the complexity of using building performance analysis throughout the entire building life cycle, including design, operation and management Contributes an emergent theory of building performance and its analysis Building Performance Analysis will appeal to the building science community, both from industry and academia. It specifically targets advanced students in architectural engineering, building services design, building performance simulation and similar fields who hold an interest in ensuring that buildings meet the needs of their stakeholders.

Book Synopsis Statistics, Testing, and Defense Acquisition by : National Research Council
Download or read book Statistics, Testing, and Defense Acquisition written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1998-05-08 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For every weapons system being developed, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) must make a critical decision: Should the system go forward to full-scale production? The answer to that question may involve not only tens of billions of dollars but also the nation's security and military capabilities. In the milestone process used by DOD to answer the basic acquisition question, one component near the end of the process is operational testing, to determine if a system meets the requirements for effectiveness and suitability in realistic battlefield settings. Problems discovered at this stage can cause significant production delays and can necessitate costly system redesign. This book examines the milestone process, as well as the DOD's entire approach to testing and evaluating defense systems. It brings to the topic of defense acquisition the application of scientific statistical principles and practices.
Book Synopsis SDL '97: Time for Testing by : Ana Cavalli
Download or read book SDL '97: Time for Testing written by Ana Cavalli and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-08-18 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Cavalli and Sarma astutely remarked in the introduction to this volume, it is quite remarkable that SDL '97 may have the first participant younger than SDL itself. SDL '97 provides the opportunity to reflect the course SDL has taken and why it has been successful over two decades where other languages addressing the same market have failed. SDL now also has a permanent companion in MSC (Message Sequence Charts). MSC today is a language in its own right and has its areas of application both in conjunction with SDL and independently or in combination with other techniques. MSC has strong structuring concepts to specify message sequences for large systems and can be used to develop scenarios, which is extremely useful for test and design environments. The SDL Forum today really is the SDL and MSC Forum.

Book Synopsis Performance Analysis of an XForms Framework with the Main Focus on Profiling by Example of Chiba by : Lars Windauer
Download or read book Performance Analysis of an XForms Framework with the Main Focus on Profiling by Example of Chiba written by Lars Windauer and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2008-02 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diploma Thesis from the year 2007 in the subject Computer Science - General, grade: 1.0, 19 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: The goal of this thesis is to analyse a common XForms framework (Chiba) with the focus on profiling for performance inadequacies and to fix them if possible. A prototype of a largely automated performance measurement setup to underpin the analysis and the verification of enhancements has been designed and implemented. The thesis starts with a theoretical part to specify terms & methodologies. Before the paper comes to its practical part the analysed project is introduced. Afterwards a practical performance analysis from the first steps to the narrow of the analysed project is exemplarily described. In detail, chapter 1 Performance & Profiling elaborates how to quantify and profile performance in theory. Chapter 2 Methods introduces various methods to analyse performance. XForms and the analysed product Chiba are presented in chapter 3 XForms / Chiba Fundamentals. The implemented performance analysis is described in chapter 4 Performance Analysis Iteration and chapter 5 Tuning XForms Actions. The Performance Analysis Iteration focuses on the design and implementation of tests to analyse and validate potential performance shortages, while Tuning XForms Actions illustrates how profiling techniques can be utilised not only to analyse but also to enhance a validated shortage. Finally - in chapter 6 Closing - the results of the analysis and the enhancements are reconsidered.
Book Synopsis Approaches to Enhance the Performance of Simheuristic Methods in the Optimisation of Multi-echelon Logistics Distribution Networks by : Majsa Ammouriova
Download or read book Approaches to Enhance the Performance of Simheuristic Methods in the Optimisation of Multi-echelon Logistics Distribution Networks written by Majsa Ammouriova and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2021 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Management of logistics distribution networks is a challenging task. Decision-makers rely on logistics assistance systems that recommend actions to optimise the networks. These systems can be based on simheuristics to benefit from metaheuristics in exploring possible solutions and on simulation for modelling the networks. This book presents three approaches to recommend promising solutions to optimise the networks with fewer simulation runs. The first approach utilises information from the network to guide the search of metaheuristics. In this approach, domain-specific information is defined and assigned to actions. The metaheuristic algorithm utilises this domain-specific information to find more-promising solutions. The second approach is reducing the number of possible solutions by grouping actions with respect to their domain-specific attributes. Here, the smaller solution space decreases the number of required simulation runs. The last approach looks for equivalent solutions that cause the same changes in the network. This approach aims to skip unnecessary evaluations and, thus, simulation effort.
