Book excerpt: Purpose : Pituitary adenomas (PA) can both alter patients' overall quality of life (QOL) and vision-related QOL (VR-QOL). The QOL of patients with PA has been widely studied in the literature, VR-QOL less so. The long-term VR-QOL of transsphenoidal surgery (TS) of PA and the prognostic factors acting on VR-QOL are currently unknown. The main objective was, therefore, to evaluate VR-QOL for least twelve months of the TS. The secondary objective was to evaluate the different prognostic factors influencing VR-QOL. Material and methods : 35 patients operated on a PA by TS with a visual impact were included. VR-QOL was obtained for least twelve months after surgery via the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire 25 (NEI-VFQ 25). Ophthalmologic data: better corrected visual acuity (VA), automatic visual field (VF), symptom duration, was recovered, at least twelve months from TS. We compared the difference in VR-QOL among different patients and the factors influencing these differences. The link between quality of life and other parameters was measured by a Spearman correlation coefficient for the quantitative variables and by a Kruskal-Wallis test comparing the means of each modality for the qualitative variables. For matched data, to compare pre-op and post-op data, a signed Wilcoxon rank test was performed. Results : Long-term average VR-QOL was 67.6 (93-14, median 80).
