Book excerpt: L'implant cochléaire a révolutionné l'appareillage des personnes sourdes en permettant l'accès à une meilleure perception et compréhension de la parole ou l'accès à la musique. Cependant des limites persistent dans la perception prosodique et donc émotionnelle. Selon certains travaux, les performances dans la reconnaissance des émotions seraient moindres chez les adultes implantés que chez les adultes ou les enfants entendants. Par la présente étude, nous évaluons la reconnaissance des émotions chez les enfants sourds implantés cochléaires. Pour ce faire, nous avons constitué un protocole d'évaluation composé d'un test de reconnaissance visuelle des émotions (Affective Judgement Questionnaire, partie A), d'un test de reconnaissance auditive des émotions en deux parties et d'une épreuve d'un test de compréhension orale (ELO). Le deuxième test, créé par nos soins, se compose de trente énoncés choisis pour leur neutralité sémantique et enregistrés par un homme et une femme. Ils expriment chacun une émotion : la joie, la colère, la tristesse, la peur ou le neutre. Trente six enfants sourds congénitaux implantés depuis au moins trois ans et quarante et un enfants entendants, tous âgés de 5 à 12 ans, ont constitué notre population. Des corrélations ont été recherchées entre les capacités de reconnaissance auditive des émotions et l'âge, la durée de port d'implant, le type d'implant (TEMPO+ ou OPUS 2 de chez MED-EL), la bi-implantation, le genre du locuteur ou la compréhension orale. Les performances des enfants implantés, pour notre étude, sont inférieures à celles des enfants entendants. Ils auraient donc une reconnaissance auditive des émotions limitée. Cependant, des variables existent entre les enfants implantés eux-mêmes. L'âge, la durée du port d'implant et le niveau de compréhension orale semblent constituer des facteurs influant significativement sur les performances contrairement au genre du locuteur ou à l'âge d'implantation. Notre étude ouvre des voies en rééducation orthophonique qui restent à définir.
