Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leading clinician and researcher in the growing field of sexual medicine explains the connection between a man's sexual function and overall health—and delivers a 7-step action plan for him to enjoy sexual intimacy over his entire life As director of the New York Center for Human Sexuality at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Ridwan Shabsigh treats thousands of patients with sexual dysfunctions. His more than 16 years of practice and trailblazing research at Columbia University have confirmed that health is intimately connected to sexual function and that the only way to treat declines in sexual desire, performance, and satisfaction is within the context of men's and couples' health. Now Dr. Shabsigh brings his expert recommendations to the public in this book. Refusing to accept that sexual dysfunction is the inevitable consequence of aging, he lays out a 7-step program to help all men improve their sexual relations—and their health. The book contains: • a self-test that assesses the reader's health, sexual satisfaction, and risk for sexual dysfunction • information on how medical conditions such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and depression affect a man's sex life—and how sexual dysfunction is the first warning sign of serious illness • recommendations for improving lifestyle choices that cause sexual problems and comprehensive approaches to treating any sexual dysfunction The result is a book that helps every man achieve a lifetime of better sex and optimum health.

Book excerpt: Reconnect to your inner sense of pleasure and joy through embodiment practices, which put you in touch with the natural wisdom of your body and enhance your ability to connect with others. In this time of increased fatigue, loneliness, and anxiety, disconnection from our bodies and from each other is at the core of our personal pain and our collective suffering. Women in particular are rewarded for, and expected to participate in self-denial. By weaving together historical and cultural commentary, humorous and poignant anecdotes, and experiential tools backed by science, The Pleasure Is All Yours is a step-by-step guide to help you release barriers to receiving life’s pleasures and deeper connections with others. In this timely guide, holistic psychologist, relationship and sex therapist, and yoga teacher Dr. Rachel Allyn introduces bodyfulness, an embodiment method she developed to help you to awaken into your body's own capacity for healing and deeper connection. Allyn explains how bodyfulness can connect you to four essential and overlooked types of pleasure—sensual, playful, lively, and erotic— which overlap in many ways, and helps you identify what can inspire your own pleasure in each category. Through bodyful activities such as breathing exercises, mindfulness, yoga, auditory release, and dynamic movements, this book helps you reunite with your inherent wisdom and soulful delight.

Book excerpt: BOOK REVIEWS -------------------------------- According to recent news reports, African Americans have the lowest marriage rate of any racial group in this country. Forty-three percent of black men and about 42 percent of black women have never been married. More than 70 percent of black children are now born to single mothers. From Bill Cosby to Tyler Perry to President Obama, the black community has faced strong criticism for its instability in relationships. It is into this social arena that Denver author Ifiok Etuk offers A Romance Truth, a unique guidebook that attempts to make real for his readers what works and, more importantly, what doesnt in the modern day quest for a fulfilling and lasting love. While the advice is universal, he is clearly speaking to a young, black audience. Though a quick read, A Romance Truth packs a lot of thoughtful guidance into its 77 pages. Etuk explores the minefield of hope and dashed expectations through three fictional relationships. Etuk does a good job of giving enough detail to their lives to hold interest. One warning: This is adult material as the sexual scenes are graphic. The books strength comes at the end of each chapter when Etuk discusses what the men and women did right and wrong. A bit preachy at times, Etuk deserves credit nonetheless for offering equal criticism of both genders. The woman in the first couple, for instance, seemed destined to be yet another wearisome example of a hard-partying, gold digger using sex to snare an upright, solid man Yet Etuk points out that the man also is to blame for being too rigid and not trying to understand the why behind his girlfriends actions A Romance Truth is worth a look Blue Ink Reviews

Book excerpt: As seen on The TODAY Show! “A godsend to anyone searching for, but struggling to find, true love in their lives.” —Kristin Neff, PhD, author of Self-Compassion "Empowering and compassionate, and its lessons are universal." —Publishers Weekly Real love starts with you. In order to attract a life partner and build a healthy intimate relationship, you must first become a good partner to yourself. This book offers twenty invaluable lessons that will help you explore and commit to your own emotional and psychological well-being so you can be ready, resilient, and confident in love. Many of us enter into romantic relationships full of expectation and hope, only to be sorely disappointed by the realization that the partner we’ve selected is a flawed human being with their own neuroses, history, and desires. Most relationships end because one or both people haven’t done the internal work necessary to develop self-awareness and take responsibility for their own experiences. We’ve all heard “You can’t love anyone unless you love yourself,” but amid life’s distractions and the myth of perfect, romantic love, how exactly do you do that? In Loving Bravely, psychologist, professor and relationship expert Alexandra H. Solomon introduces the idea of relational self-awareness, encouraging you to explore your personal history to gain an understanding of your own relational patterns, as well as your strengths and weaknesses in relationships. By doing so, you’ll learn what relationships actually require, beyond the fairytale notions of romance. And by maintaining a steady but gentle focus on yourself, you’ll build the best possible foundation for making a loving connection. By understanding your past relationship experiences, cultivating a strong sense of self-awareness, and determining what it is you really want in a romantic partner—you’ll be ready to find the healthy, lasting love your heart desires.

Book excerpt: This book looks at how our brains, minds, bodies, and emotions interact to create our experience of sexuality, and how we can create a sense of sexual self-esteem and a nutritious sexual diet for ourselves. As the author notes in her Introduction, 'we think and talk about sex as something we do, rather than sexuality being something that we have; and being sexual, as something that we are. We talk little about feeling sexual or the emotional and relational reasons for sexual desire; about the fact that it is usually an 'other' that we want to be sexual with. Our focus seems to be on how much sex we can have rather than how we want to express ourselves sexually.' This book challenges the cultural commodification of sex and sexuality, and encourages the reader to experience 'being sexual' rather than 'doing sex' or 'looking sexy'. This is crucial to our development of sexual self-esteem, particularly in an era of ubiquitous online pornography.
