Book Synopsis Legal Knowledge Representation:Automatic Text Analysis in Public International and European Law by : Erich Schweighofer
Download or read book Legal Knowledge Representation:Automatic Text Analysis in Public International and European Law written by Erich Schweighofer and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 1999-10-19 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a presentation of all methods of legal knowledge representation from the point of view of jurisprudence as well as computer science. A new method of automatic analysis of legal texts is presented in four case studies. Law is seen as an information system with legally formalised information processes. The achieved coverage of legal knowledge in information retrieval systems has to be followed by the next step: conceptual indexing and automatic analysis of texts. Existing approaches of automatic knowledge representations do not have a proper link to the legal language in information systems. The concept-based model for semi-automatic analysis of legal texts provides this necessary connection. The knowledge base of descriptors, context-sensitive rules and meta-rules formalises properly all important passages in the text corpora for automatic analysis. Statistics and self-organising maps give assistance in knowledge acquisition. The result of the analysis is organised with automatically generated hypertext links. Four case studies show the huge potential but also some drawbacks of this approach.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Database and Expert Systems Applications (DEXA) conferences have established themselves as a platform for bringing together researchers and practitioners from various backgrounds and all regions of the world to exchange ideas, experiences and opinions in a friendly and stimulating environment. The papers presented at the conference represent recent developments in the field and important steps towards shaping the future of applied computer science and information systems. DEXA covers a broad field: all aspects of databases, knowledge based systems, knowledge management, web-based systems, information systems, related technologies and their applications. Once again there were a good number of submissions: out of 183 papers that were submitted, the program committee selected 92 to be presented. In the first year of this new millennium DEXA has come back to the United Kingdom, following events in Vienna, Berlin, Valencia, Prague, Athens, London, Zurich, Toulouse, Vienna and Florence. The past decade has seen several revolutionary developments, one of which was the explosion of Internet-related applications in the areas covered by DEXA, developments in which DEXA has played a role and in which DEXA will continue to play a role in its second decade, starting with this conference.

Book Synopsis Toward a Cyberlegal Culture: Legal Research on the Frontier of Innovation, 2nd Edition by : Mirela Roznovschi
Download or read book Toward a Cyberlegal Culture: Legal Research on the Frontier of Innovation, 2nd Edition written by Mirela Roznovschi and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although universal on-line access to legal information has vastly expanded the lawyer's practical resources, it does not come with a clear and reliable methodology. A fundamental shift in approach is necessary to understand its enormous transformation of the legal research process; using it requires a new set of procedures amounting to the assimilation of a new legal culture. Now for the first time this new 'cyberlegal' culture is fully set forth in a way that makes its great benefits available to all legal practitioners and law librarians. This volume provides an in-depth analysis of the new legal infrastructure inherent in the internationalisation of legal research via the internet. It presents dependable strategies for navigating efficiently in the virtual reality environment, with special attention to the librarian's role in shaping legal database interfaces. It thoroughly explains how the law library's mission is restructured, adding a teaching dimension to its traditional role as a reference service. The author describes the skills and managerial decisions that characterise the cyberlegal culture, showing the reader exactly how the cyberlegal information specialist conducts substantive legal research. She spells out the guiding principles on evaluating databases, other online legal research tools, and the 'linked thinking' capabilities of the internet.
Book Synopsis Information Sharing and Data Protection in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice by : Franziska Boehm
Download or read book Information Sharing and Data Protection in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice written by Franziska Boehm and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-06 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Privacy and data protection in police work and law enforcement cooperation has always been a challenging issue. Current developments in EU internal security policy, such as increased information sharing (which includes the exchange of personal data between European law enforcement agencies and judicial actors in the area of freedom, security and justice (Europol, Eurojust, Frontex and OLAF)) and the access of EU agencies, in particular Europol and Eurojust, to data stored in European information systems such as the SIS (II), VIS, CIS or Eurodac raise interesting questions regarding the balance between the rights of individuals and security interests. This book deals with the complexity of the relations between these actors and offers for the first time a comprehensive overview of the structures for information exchange in the area of freedom, security and justice and their compliance with data protection rules in this field.
