Book Synopsis The Common EU Maritime Transport Policy by : Athanasios A. Pallis
Download or read book The Common EU Maritime Transport Policy written by Athanasios A. Pallis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1990s there were two major developments to the Common EU Maritime Transport Policy (CMTP): the establishment of European Union policies on safe seas and on shortsea shipping respectively. This book critically analyzes and appraises these and other developments to the CMTP in this period, while also studying policy Europeanization. It focuses on both the economic environment of maritime transport and the interaction of policy makers and organized interests during the policy-making process, with an emphasis on the political dimensions. By developing an innovative economic model, the book examines the ways in which governmental and non-governmental policy makers and their ideas interact within the EU's structure and dynamics, and shows how these factors account for why, when and how the specific common EU policy has developed.
Book Synopsis European Union Port Policy by : Kōnstantinos Chlōmoudēs
Download or read book European Union Port Policy written by Kōnstantinos Chlōmoudēs and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of a European Port Policy is widely recognised as a critical component of the Common EU Transport Policy, and has been the focus of attention since the early 1990s. A coherent common EU wide port policy has not yet been achieved, but the authors of this book argue that it has a major role to play in European integration and that its significance in this context is set to increase. European Union Port Policy assesses the progress that has been made towards a comprehensive policy framework, reviewing the impact of both historical and contemporary policy initiatives - such as the recent 'port package' - before forecasting expected developments in policy making and the prospects of successfully achieving a single port policy. This book offers a unique review of port policy in the EU and will appeal to all those in academic and policy circles with an interest in both transport and European integration.

Download or read book Maritime Safety in Europe written by Justyna Nawrot and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2020-12-23 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is concerned with the harmonisation of maritime safety legal systems in Europe. It describes maritime safety legal systems in selected European countries as well as maritime safety issues from the perspective of the International Maritime Organisation, European Union, and European Free Trade Association. Distinguished scholars from Europe's leading maritime law academic centres present national perspectives of maritime safety systems, questioning whether the adopted national solutions guarantee the compatibility with IMO and EU legal regime, as well as assessing the global and EU system. Moreover, the book seeks to provide some answers as to whether the IMO goals on maritime safety are adequate in light of current safety challenges and how to achieve higher level of enforcement of internationally-recognised maritime safety standards. It will be of great assistance to those readers who need to familiarize themselves with current problems inherent in maritime safety, whether that be lawyers, scholars, professional mariners, or national institutions. Book Synopsis Towards a Single European Maritime Transport Area by : Vasiliki Neophytou
Download or read book Towards a Single European Maritime Transport Area written by Vasiliki Neophytou and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The internal market was always playing a vital role to the European integration. Harmonisation and the free movement of goods were the main two tools pushing the internal market into completion. The single market plan did not magically come to an end in 1992. Various measures that complete and expand the internal market continue to flow. Today, the EU aims the creation of a single European maritime transport area by the simplification and elimination of trade barriers within the intra-EU maritime transport. Union goods that travel between EU ports and pass the custom territory of the EU are doom to face all the relevant administrative procedures like non-Union goods. Thus, the expansion of - or the establishment of a real - internal market would strengthen the competitive situation of shipping versus other modes of transport and the whole economy. A single European maritime transport area will deepen the internal market which is a powerful instrument to promote economic integration.

Book Synopsis European Port Cities in Transition by : Angela Carpenter
Download or read book European Port Cities in Transition written by Angela Carpenter and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-22 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seaports, as part of urban centers, play a major role in the cultural, social and economic life of the cities in which they are located, and through the links they provide to the outside world. Port-cities in Europe have faced significant change, first with the loss of heavy industry, emergence of Eastern European democracies, and the widening of the European Community (now European Union) during the second half of the twentieth century, and more recently through drivers to change including the global Sustainable Development Agenda and the European Union Circular Economy Agenda. This book examines the role of modern seaports in Europe and consider how port-cities are responding to these major drivers for change. It discusses the broad issues facing European Sea Ports, including port life cycles, spatial planning, and societal integration. May 2019 saw the 200th anniversary of the first steam ship to cross the Atlantic between the US and England, and it is just over 60 years since the invention of the modern intermodal shipping container – both drivers of change in the maritime and ports industry. Increasing movements of people, e.g. through low cost cruises to port cities, can play a major role in changing the nature of such a city and impact on the lives of the people living there. This book brings together original research by both long-standing and younger scholars from multiple disciplines and builds upon the wider discourse about sea ports, port cities, and sustainability.

The authors have used their experience in the formulation of shipping policy at both national and European Community levels, to produce an objective analysis using an interdisciplinary approach. In view of the lack of information on shipping matters to both academics and practitioners, this survey should be of wide interest.
