Book Synopsis Fundamental Issues and Applications of Shock-Wave and High-Strain-Rate Phenomena by : K.P. Staudhammer
Download or read book Fundamental Issues and Applications of Shock-Wave and High-Strain-Rate Phenomena written by K.P. Staudhammer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-02-08 with total page 715 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of EXPLOMETTM 2000, International Conference on Fundamental Issues and Applications of Shock-Wave and High-Strain-Rate Phenomena, held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, 2000; the fifth in the EXPLOMETTM quinquennial series which began in Albuquerque in 1980. The book is divided into five major sections with a total of 85 chapters. Section I deals with materials issues in shock and high strain rates while Section II covers shock consolidation, reactions, and synthesis. Materials aspects of ballistic and hypervelocity impact are covered in Section III followed by modeling and simulation in Section IV and a range of novel applications of shock and high-strain-rate phenomena in Section V. Like previous conference volumes published in 1980, 1985, and 1995, the current volume includes contributions from fourteen countries outside the United States. As a consequence, it is hoped that this book will serve as a global summary of current issues involving shock and high-strain-rate phenomena as well as a general reference and teaching componant for specializd curricula dealing with these features in a contemporary way. Over the past twenty years, the EXPLOMETTM Conferences have created a family of participants who not only converse every five years but who have developed long-standing interactions and professional relationships which continue to stimulate new concepts and applications particularly rooted in basic materials behavior.

Book Synopsis Computational Mechanics ’95 by : S.N. Atluri
Download or read book Computational Mechanics ’95 written by S.N. Atluri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 3181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AI!, in the earlier conferences (Tokyo, 1986; Atlanta, 1988, Melbourne, 1991; and Hong Kong, 1992) the response to the call for presentations at ICES-95 in Hawaii has been overwhelming. A very careful screening of the extended abstracts resulted in about 500 paper being accepted for presentation. Out of these, written versions of about 480 papers reached the conference secretariat in Atlanta in time for inclusion in these proceedings. The topics covered at ICES-95 range over the broadest spectrum of computational engineering science. The editors thank the international scientific committee, for their advice and encouragement in making ICES-95 a successful scientific event. Special thanks are expressed to the International Association for Boundary Elements Methods for hosting IABEM-95 in conjunction with ICES-95. The editors here express their deepest gratitude to Ms. Stacy Morgan for her careful handling of a myriad of details of ICES-95, often times under severe time constraints. The editors hope that the readers of this proceedings will find a kaleidoscopic view of computational engineering in the year 1995, as practiced in various parts of the world. Satya N. Book Synopsis Lightweight Ballistic Composites by : Ashok Bhatnagar
Download or read book Lightweight Ballistic Composites written by Ashok Bhatnagar and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lightweight Ballistic Composites: Military and Law-Enforcement Applications, Second Edition, is a fully revised and updated version of this informative book that explores the many changes in composite materials technology that have occurred since the book's first release in 2008, especially the type of commercial products used by armed forces around the world. Some changes can be attributed to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, whereas others are due to massive investment by private companies to neutralize the ever-increasing global threats and fulfill the military's appetite for lighter materials. Soldiers are now better protected against new ballistic threats and the overall weight of body protection has been reduced, while comfort has increased. New military vehicles are no longer purely armored with steel, and are instead lined with lightweight ballistic materials that increase the distance military vehicles can travel without refueling and also improve maneuverability. The book considers all aspects of lightweight ballistic composites from fiber manufacturing to commercial products and testing. Chapters also cover the many uses of lightweight ballistic composites in the military and law-enforcement industries. It will be an invaluable reference for ballistic composite design engineers, product development engineers, and all those involved in promoting new products for both defense and the law-enforcement industry. - Gives comprehensive coverage on all aspects of lightweight ballistic composites, from fiber manufacturing, to commercial products and testing - Discusses the wider applications of lightweight ballistic composites in military and law-enforcement industries - Edited by a highly respected industry expert with over thirty years' experience developing lightweight composite ballistic materials and products

This subject has become a broad and important field of considerable mathematical complexity, with many competing models and unsolved problems. Attention in this volume focuses on concrete, rock, masonry, toughened ceramics, ice and other quasibrittle materials characterized by the development of large zones of cracking or other microstructural damage, and its localization into major fractures.
Book Synopsis High-Pressure Shock Compression of Solids III by : Lee Davison
Download or read book High-Pressure Shock Compression of Solids III written by Lee Davison and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in experimental methods are providing an increasingly detailed understanding of shock compression phenomena on the bulk, intermediate, and molecular scales. This third volume in a series of reviews of the curent state of knowledge covers several diverse areas. The first group of chapters addresses fundamental physical and chemical aspects of the response of condensed matter to shock comression: equations of state, molecular-dynamic analysis, deformation of materials, spectroscopic methods. Two further chapters focus on a particular group of materials: ceramics. Another chapter discusses shock-induced reaction of condensed-phase explosives. And a final pair of chapters considers shock phenomena at low stresses from the point of view of continuum mechanics.
