La solution choisie par l'opérateur historique français sous sa marque Orange est celle du PON (Passive Optical Networks). Le choix d'une architecture Point à Multi-Point optique permet de mutualiser l'infrastructure entre plusieurs utilisateurs et par conséquent de minimiser le nombre de fibres posées et la taille du câble en sortie du central. Cette thèse aborde le sujet de la montée en débit du réseau d'accès optique utilisant le multiplexage temporel (TDM) avec une réutilisation des infrastructures existantes lors de la première génération de déploiement. Tout d'abord, le premier chapitre présente le contexte actuel du réseau d'accès et les évolutions futures de ses architectures. Ensuite, le second chapitre présente un panorama des technologies utilisées dans le réseau d'accès optique à partage temporel avec les contraintes liées à la montée en débit (jusqu'à 10Gbit/s) à la fois pour l'émission et la réception du mode rafale de la voie montante. Le troisième chapitre décrit les différentes architectures réalisées et testées au laboratoire dans le cadre de ces travaux de recherche. Une des architectures innovantes, présentée dans ce chapitre, met en place un réseau PON à 10Gbit/s avec une transmission sur 60 km de fibre optique d'une voie montante en mode rafale pour un budget optique avoisinant les 55dB et 40dB, respectivement avec et sans amplification optique. Enfin, la dernière partie de ce manuscrit présente des études sur le bruit de transmission dans une architecture bidirectionnelle intégrant un amplificateur à base de semiconducteurs.

Book excerpt: Ces travaux de recherches visent à étudier et à proposer de nouvelles architectures dans le contexte d'une Nouvelle Génération de Réseau d'Accès Optique Passif (NG-PON). Cette nouvelle génération d'équipements se justifie par l'augmentation des besoins en débit (descendant et/ou montant), ou d'éventuelles futures obligations réglementaires. Elle a pour fil conducteur le souci d'optimiser les coûts de déploiement de l'accès FTTH. Depuis 2010, l'organisme de pré-normalisation, le FSAN (associé à l'ITU) a prévu une action sur le thème du NG-PON qui se décline en XG-PON1 pour la première vague (débit 10 Gbit/s descendant et 2.5 Gbit/s montant) puis en un deuxième volet appelé NG-PON2 (pour une offre viable commerciale basée sur un débit de l'ordre de 1 Gbit/s) pour succéder au G-PON et au XG-PON1. Des évaluations ont été menées sur la transmission optique, plus exactement au niveau de la couche physique (mesures de taux d'erreur, budget optique, portée) pour en déduire par la suite la faisabilité et la performance des systèmes. Deux thématiques ont structuré le travail de thèse sur la base de ce périmètre d'analyse : i) la recherche de solutions techniques pour optimiser le nombre de centraux "opticalisés", ii) la recherche de solutions dans le modem client pour permettre de se connecter à des solutions de type une longueur d'onde par client. Un combineur optique sans pertes répondant au meilleur remplissage des cartes OLTs (Optical Line Termination) au Central Optique a été démontré. Ce combineur optique permet la réduction des sites NRO (Noeud de Raccordement Optique). Cette thèse s'intéresse aussi à l'ONU (Optical Network Unit), l'équipement du côté du client qui est un élément fondamental qui impacte le modèle de coût dans les réseaux d'accès. Les ONU achromatiques (dont les émetteurs sont identiques quelque soit la longueur d'onde d'émission) étudiés sont soit à base de source large à découpage spectral ("Spectrum Slicing") soit à base de lasers accordables. Ils offrent l'avantage de la simplicité dans une architecture dont le multiplexage et l'accès multiples sont basés sur la longueur d'onde. Le format de modulation avancé de type OFDM et l'emploi de la technique de traitement de signal comme l'égaliseur sont également mis en relief dans ces travaux de thèse. Ces deux aspects correspondent à des mises en oeuvre d'outils de l'état de l'art le plus récent pour compenser les pénalités d'une transmission optoélectronique.

Cette accélération est en partie due à une augmentation de nombre d'abonnés résidentiels ou professionnels mais elle est surtout la conséquence de l'évolution des technologies d'accès qui permettent désormais d'offrir le ``haut débit". Dans un passé récent, les principales technologies d'accès filaire sont d'une part les technologies xDSL (qui exploitent les boucles de cuivre déployées à l'origine pour le téléphone) et celles s'appuyant les réseaux câblés (qui ont été déployés pour distribuer la télévision). La tendance actuelle, pour les réseaux d'accès filaires, s'appuie sur les technologies optiques dites ``FTTx" (Fiber To The Home/Curb/Building/Premises). Les réseaux d'accès optiques diffèrent des précédents par le support physique employé pour transporter l'information. Dans le cas des réseaux d'accès optiques, il s'agit de fibres optiques, qui ont la plus grande capacité de tous les supports physiques utilisés aujourd'hui. Utiliser un tel support physique permet potentiellement de fournir à l'usager une bande passante considérable. Cependant, l'architecture de tels réseaux soulève un grand nombre de questions. Pour des raisons d'économie, il est nécessaire d'une part de limiter le génie civil (dont le coût est dominant dans le déploiement du réseau), et d'autre part de limiter le nombre d'équipements actifs (qui présentent des coûts d'investissement et de fonctionnement supérieurs aux équipements passifs). Une solution souvent proposée consiste à déployer des arbres de distribution, et de concentrer l'intelligence du réseau d'accès (ses éléments actifs) à la racine de l'arbre : c'est la définition d'un PON (Passive Optical Network). L'absence d'équipements actifs dans les éléments terminaux, et le partage de la capacité de transmission de la fibre entre plusieurs usagers, en particulier dans le sens montant, imposent la mise en \oe uvre de mécanismes contrôlant le multiplexage. Ces mécanismes sont implémentés dans des protocoles d'accès au medium (MAC), qui sont l'objet principal du travail de cette thèse. Le trafic descendant est diffusé vers tous les usagers, chaque extrémité filtrant le trafic qui lui est destiné. L'accès au réseau du trafic montant doit par contre être contrôlé strictement afin d'éviter les collisions. Cette thèse propose des mécanismes pouvant être implémentés dans une MAC pour PON Ethernet (EPON) afin de contrôler le trafic montant. Nous montrons que les mécanismes proposés peuvent d'une part supporter des classes de trafic différentes, d'autre part coupler l'allocation de ressource au contrôle d'accès et enfin utiliser efficacement la capacité du réseau en terme de trafic montant. Les mécanismes et processus proposés dans la thèse sont majoritairement analysés par simulation, la complexité du fonctionnement d'un PON excluant l'usage de modèles analytiques, sauf pour des études simples rapportés au Chapitre 3. Un cadre de simulation complet, décrit dans le Chapitre 4, a été construit à l'aide de Network Simulator. Ce cadre nous a permis de comparer le fonctionnement des mécanismes proposés avec les mécanismes considérés comme faisant partie de l'état de l'art. En particulier, nous montrons dans le Chapitre 5 que nos mécanismes, simples d'implémentation, fonctionnent nettement mieux que les mécanismes classiques en ce qui concerne le support de trafics temps réels, tout en assurant un taux d'occupation quasiment optimal de la capacité montante. Plus généralement, nous positionnons dans le Chapitre 6 les mécanismes proposés dans une problématique générale du plan de commande pour les réseaux d'accès optique passifs. Des conclusions et perspectives sont données au Chapitre 7.
