Download or read book Insurgent Love written by Ardath Whynacht and published by Fernwood Publishing. This book was released on 2021-10-31T00:00:00Z with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Domestic homicide is violence that strikes within our most intimate relations. The most common strategy for addressing this kind of transgression relies on policing and prisons. But through examining commonly accepted typologies of high-risk intimate partner violence, Ardath Whynacht shows that policing can be understood as part of the same root problem as the violence it seeks to mend and provides an abolitionist frame for the most dangerous forms of intimate partner violence. This book illustrates that the origins of both the carceral state and toxic masculinity are situated in settler colonialism and racial capitalism and sees police homicide and domestic homicide as akin. Describing an experience of domestic homicide in her community and providing a deeply personal analysis of some of the most recent cases of homicide in Canada, the author inhabits the complexity of seeking abolitionist justice. Insurgent Love traces the major risk factors for domestic homicide within the structures of racial capitalism and suggests transformative, anti-capitalist, anti-racist, feminist approaches for safety, prevention and justice.
Book Synopsis Oil and Gas to Europe by : Susanne Nies
Download or read book Oil and Gas to Europe written by Susanne Nies and published by Gouvernance Europeenne Et Geop. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Union's hydrocarbon energy supply depends heavily on imports. While the European Commission has recommended diversifying and increasing domestic resources, notably with renewable resources that should grow to 20 percent by 2020, dependence on hydrocarbon imports will remain not only substantial, but will increase. This entirely revised edition of the fourth study conducted by the European Governance and Geopolitics of Energy Program at IFRI includes discussions about pipeline routes and potential outputs, their current use and financial requirements for transportation, ongoing projects and those planned for the future, their cost, their financing, and their probable operational start-up date. While all infrastructures are necessarily examined (including Norway, the United Kingdom, and North Africa), particular attention is paid to transportation infrastructure that connects Europe with Russia and the former Soviet Union (Central Asia, Caspian Sea).

Book Synopsis The EU's Major Electricity and Gas Utilities Since Market Liberalization by : Christian Schülke
Download or read book The EU's Major Electricity and Gas Utilities Since Market Liberalization written by Christian Schülke and published by Gouvernance Europeenne Et Geop. This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major change has taken place in the company structure of the European electricity and gas markets. Since the liberalization of EU energy markets began in the 1990s, companies like E.ON, GDF Suez, EDF, Enel, and RWE have become European giants with activities in a large number of member states. The advocates of market liberalization did not expect, or intend, the emergence of a small number of large utilities that control an increasing part of the EU market. Some observers claim that liberalization has led to an oligopoly with detrimental consequences for competition. Based on extensive background research, this book presents a fact-based analysis of the changes in the European utility sector since the 1990s. Case studies of the seven largest utilities illustrate how companies adapted their strategies to the changing market environment. The author underlines diverging choices and common trends with the aim of using synergies between electricity and gas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electricity interconnections is a prominent issue in the news, and is sometimes even featured as a panacea for the shortcomings of the European electricity market a panacea that would ensure energy supply and security and pave the way for a promising use of renewables in the future. This report is devoted to electricity interconnections in Europe, their current state, and the projects concerning them. In line with IFRI's focus on international relations and geopolitics, the author concentrates on the geopolitics and governance of interconnections. Prominent projects as such as Desertec, the debate on DC or AC lines, and the limits of synchronization, as well as the state of a potential East West electricity linkage between the former Soviet Union and the EU, termed UCTE-UPS/IPS, are discussed. The Study finishes with recommendations for policy makers."
