Book excerpt: La production des hydrocarbures est à l'origine, parfois, d'une compaction de la couche réservoir et d'un affaissement important de la surface du sol (subsidence). Le remède classique à ce type de phénomène est le maintien de la pression de fluide par injection d'eau. Toutefois, dans le cas des craies très poreuses (porosité > 30 %), cette technique s'est révélée peu efficace : dans les gisements situés en Mer du Nord (champ d'Ekofisk) le taux de subsidence, après injection, est resté élevé. Ce travail de thèse a pour but de faire progresser les connaissances des mécanismes de compaction des calcaires très purs et de proposer, à l'échelle micromécanique puis à celle de l'échantillon, une modélisation en accord avec les observations. Le lithotype utilisé pour les essais est une craie blanche du bassin parisien (Craie de Gerville)de caractéristiques proches de celle de la Mer du Nord, mais qui affleure en surface et n'a jamais été en contact avec les hydrocarbures. Des essais d'injection d'eau de type oedométrique - à déformation latérale nulle -, couplés aux résultats de la campagne de mesures physico-chimiques, nous ont permis de mettre en évidence deux contributions de nature différente à la cohésion entre les grains de craie : une contribution (constante) due à des ponts solides entre les grains et une contribution (variable en fonction du degré de saturation en eau) donnée par les efforts de nature capillaire. Un modèle de comportement élastoplastique explicitant comment ces deux contributions se couplent est proposé. Dans ce modèles l'écrouissage du matériau est contrôlé, comme d'habitude, par la déformation plastique, tandis que son adoucissement par le degré de saturation en eau.

Les resultats obtenus mettent en evidence les aspects fondamentaux du comportement mecanique de cette roche. Pour les deux types de fluides saturants, deux mecanismes de deformations plastiques sont mis en evidence : l'un correspond a un effondrement des pores, l'autre au cisaillement entre grains. L'evolution de la surface de charge et de la resistance a la rupture est etudiee. Un modele elastoplastique a deux surfaces de charge est developpe pour decrire le comportement de la craie. Le modele propose est utilise pour simuler les essais de la campagne experimentale. Le meme modele est utilise pour chacun des deux fluides saturants mais avec deux jeux de parametres differents. De facon generale, on obtient une bonne concordance entre les resultats experimentaux et ceux de la simulation. Quatorze essais d'injection, sous contraintes constantes sont realises pour etudier l'impact de l'injection d'eau dans un echantillon initialement sature au soltrol. En introduisant le modele developpe precedemment dans un programme de calcul par elements finis et en introduisant le concept de saut de surface de charge, le saut de deformation observe lors des essais d'injection est modelise. Afin d'appliquer le concept de modelisation a differents types de scenarios de production de champs petroliers, la resolution d'un probleme d'ecoulement biphasique en milieu poreux est etudiee. La simulation d'un probleme type de reservoir est proposee.

Understanding the fundamental mechanisms and processes of gas and vapor transport in porous media allows models to be used to evaluate and optimize the performance and design of these systems. In this book, gas and vapor are distinguished by their available states at stan- ? dard temperature and pressure (20 C, 101 kPa). If the gas-phase constituent can also exist as a liquid phase at standard temperature and pressure (e. g. , water, ethanol, toluene, trichlorothylene), it is considered a vapor. If the gas-phase constituent is non-condensable at standard temperature and pressure (e. g. , oxygen, carbon di- ide, helium, hydrogen, propane), it is considered a gas. The distinction is important because different processes affect the transport and behavior of gases and vapors in porous media. For example, mechanisms specific to vapors include vapor-pressure lowering and enhanced vapor diffusion, which are caused by the presence of a g- phase constituent interacting with its liquid phase in an unsaturated porous media. In addition, the “heat-pipe” exploits isothermal latent heat exchange during evaporation and condensation to effectively transfer heat in designed and natural systems.
