Download or read book Étude en laboratoire du gonflement de l'argile des Flandres written by Saïd Khaddaj and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Etude en laboratoire du gonflement des sols written by Timothée Windal and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Low-rise Buildings on Shrinkable Clay Soils by :
Download or read book Low-rise Buildings on Shrinkable Clay Soils written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for additional guidance on building on clay soils was established by the concern at the high incidence of subsidence damage during the drought of 1975-76. This Digest, which supplements Digests 63, 64 and 67 Soils and foundations, is based on the findings of continuing BRE research into the performance of low-rise buildings founded on shrinkable clay soils. This Digest is published in three parts. This part describes the shrinking and swelling behaviour of clay soils and shows the general location within the UK of the more common shrinkable clays. It also gives guidance on identifying such clay and assessing its shrinking or swelling potential. Part 2 discusses designs which should provide stable foundations in the most adverse circumstances and Part 3 describes the design of bored pile and beam foundations.
Book Synopsis An Historical Geography of France by : Xavier de Planhol
Download or read book An Historical Geography of France written by Xavier de Planhol and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-03-17 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this 1994 book, Xavier de Planhol and Paul Claval, two of France's leading scholars in the field, trace the historical geography of their country from its roots in the Roman province of Gaul to the 1990s. They demonstrate how, for centuries, France was little more than an ideological concept, despite its natural physical boundaries and long territorial history. They examine the relatively late development of a more complex territorial geography, involving political, religious, cultural, agricultural and industrial unities and diversities. The conclusion reached is that only in the twentieth century had France achieved a profound territorial unity and only now are the fragmentations of the past being overwritten.
Book Synopsis Landscapes Or Seascapes? by : Erik Thoen
Download or read book Landscapes Or Seascapes? written by Erik Thoen and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the geographical evolution of the coastal areas adjacent to the North Sea, with a focus upon the last two thousand years. Although many articles are reworked in a fundamental way, most of them are the result of a conference which took place in 2010 at the University of Ghent (Belgium). The various disciplines in which the coastal plains are studied too often remain within their own borders, and so the authors have set out to thoroughly interweave them in the hope that this will spur greater interdisciplinary cooperation. This collection of texts is intended to appeal not just to experts in historical geography, but to historians and scientists working in any field who wish to gain insights into the present ‘state of play’.

Book Synopsis How Europe's Economies Learn by : Edward Lorenz
Download or read book How Europe's Economies Learn written by Edward Lorenz and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2006-12-07 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When seeking to bench mark the performance of European economies, commentators often look to compare them to the economies of Japan and the United States. How Europe's Economies Learn shows how this is seriously misleading, and how any such comparison needs to be complemented with an understanding of the fundamental differences between Europe's economies. The contributors provide an up-to-date description and analysis of the way differences in state systems and institutional contexts, such as labour markets, education and training systems, and financial systems, shape learning processes and innovation performance across the member nations of the European Union. In doing so, it draws important conclusion for how policy strategies should be designed at the national and European levels in order to further promote the goals of the Lisbonprocess.

Book Synopsis Origin of the Dutch coastal landscape by : Peter Vos
Download or read book Origin of the Dutch coastal landscape written by Peter Vos and published by Barkhuis. This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of this book is the Origin of the Dutch coastal landscape during the Holocene. The landscape evolution is visualized in series of palaeogeographical maps and the driving mechanisms behind the environmental changes are discussed. The practice to make palaeogeographical map reconstructions in the Netherlands developed after the Second World War when a lot of regional geological and soil scientific mapping programs were carried out by government institutions and universities. These maps show when and how the surveyed sediments were formed. The palaeogeographical map reconstructions are subsequently used for the understanding and modeling of the long-term coastal evolution, coastal-management issues, landscape-archaeological purposes and for education and public information reasons. Geoarchaeological investigations play an important role in this study. Geological and palaeo-environmental data from archaeological excavations (key sites') provided essential information for the palaeolandscape reconstructions. In the presented regional- and local-case studies of this book, examples of these sites are shown.
Book Synopsis Swifterbant S4 (the Netherlands) by : D.C.M. Raemaekers
Download or read book Swifterbant S4 (the Netherlands) written by D.C.M. Raemaekers and published by Barkhuis. This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication presents the results of the 2005-2007 excavations at Swifterbant S4, carried out by the Groningen Institute of Archaeology. S4 is a well-preserved Neolithic wetland site (c. 4300-4000 cal. BC) located within the Swifterbant river system in the Netherlands. We present the landscape setting, the various finds categories and the spatial patterns with three research themes in mind. Theme 1 concerns the environmental setting, subsistence and site function. We conclude that the Swifterbant hunter-gatherer-farmers exploited a mosaic-type landscape. Theme 2 deals with developments in site function during the occupation and exploitation history of the site. This analysis leads to the observation that episodes of cultivation and settlement alternated at S4. Theme 3, the use of space, was difficult to study due to the fragmented nature of the excavation plan. This site monograph makes Swifterbant S4 the most comprehensively published site of the Swifterbant river system.
