Book excerpt: “In the dance of existence, where mountains touch the heavens and valleys cradle the essence of life, there unfolds a timeless pilgrimage—a journey beyond the physical landscapes into the realms of the soul. This is a tale woven with threads of wisdom drawn from the towering peaks of the Himalayas and the vibrant tapestry of valleys beyond.Meet Haasini, a seeker whose footsteps traverse the sacred trails of the Himalayas, guided by an innate yearning for connection and understanding. The journey unfolds in ten chapters, each revealing a facet of her odyssey—a tapestry where the eternal meets the transient, and where the echoes of ancient mountains reverberate through the landscapes of human experience. As Haasini's story unfolds, it beckons us to explore the depths of our own souls, to embark on our personal pilgrimages, and to recognize the interconnectedness that binds every being to the eternal dance of life. Join her in a quest for wisdom, love, and the serenity that resides in the heart of every seeker.” Excerpt From The Himalaya 'Breathes PRG This material may be protected by copyright.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This broad treatment of architecture throughout the region of the Himalaya mountains is the first book of its kind. The author has based this study on many years of research in Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Assam, and the Darjeeling area of northeast India, northern Pakistan, and Himachal Pradesh in India's northwest. These areas make up an artistic and, to some degree, a cultural unit. It is unique and definable for its design qualities as well as its use of materials. Dramatic and lofty structures rise as towering palaces and as temples dedicated to Hindu and Buddhist ideals. The impact of neighboring Tibet and India is often evident in the art, but other influences are found as well. The area has not been isolated, as some studies suggest, but was in fact always linked to the rest of Asia and to the West by means of the Silk Road, at least since the second century B.C. This study progresses from east to west, beginning in the foothills of India's Assam. It is richly illustrated with photographs, most of which are the author's or his wife's, and many of the photographs are published here for the first time. The archives of the Archaeological Survey of India and the Department of Archaeology of His Majesty's Government of Nepal are also used here.

Book excerpt: Fourteen essays provide a challenging outlook on narratives by women explorers and travellers from five different continents, spanning nearly one century from 1850 to 1945. The map thus drawn enables one to revisit, restore, and reassess the content and the originality of these narratives by women. The essays are relevant to the fields of travel writing and gender studies, and all draw from referential contemporary theoretical and critical works (Michel Foucault, Homi Bhabha, Edward Said, Roland Barthes, Michel de Certeau, Gilles Deleuze, Sara Mills, Kristi Siegel, and Jane Robinson). The main interest and originality of the volume result from the perspectives adopted by the different authors. The text-oriented analyses rely on close reading, thus definitely providing accurate and perceptive critical insights into the narratives. Such perspective precludes erasing the differential features characterizing each geographical space and each travelling subject. It also moves away from any temptation at creating a naturalized mythical image of these women.
