Book Synopsis Mechanical Spectroscopy Q-1 2001 by : Robert Schaller
Download or read book Mechanical Spectroscopy Q-1 2001 written by Robert Schaller and published by Trans Tech Publications. This book was released on 2001 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanical spectroscopy is a non-desctructive technique that is very well suited for studying the dynamics of singularities such as structural defects in solids. It has been successfully applied in solid state physics and materials science for more than 50 years, and in this textbook aims at summarizing the state-of-the-art in this field by presenting results obtained by Western European laboratories. spectroscopy (Ch. 1) is basedon a complete description of elastic, viscoelastic, and viscoplastic behaviour of solids. The anelastic response is analyzed from three different veiwpoints: phenomenology, rheology and thermodynamics. defect dimensionality: point defects (Ch. 2) one-dimensional defects, such as dislocations (Ch. 3), two-dimensional defects, such as grain boundaries (Ch. 4) or the surface of domains (Ch 6). Mechanical losses associated with phase transitions are presented in chapter 5, and relaxation in non-crystalline materials in chapter 7. as thin-layers, localized surface properties, stress relazation in composites, fatigue and the development of high-damping materials, are described, with examples, in chapter 8. Chapter 9 covers classical, and new, techniques for measuring internal friction or ultrasonic attenuation in solids, from macro- down to nanoscale.

Book Synopsis Conservation of Building and Decorative Stone by : F G Dimes
Download or read book Conservation of Building and Decorative Stone written by F G Dimes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-11-02 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the problems which beset the practical conservation of stone buildings is the fragmentation of the disciplines involved. This book, with both volumes now available as one invaluable paperback, brings these disciplines together by the involvement of contributors with different experiences and approaches to the same material. Part one is an introduction to the complexities and background history of stone conservation followed by the most comprehensive description yet produced of the building and decorative stones used in the British Isles. In part two, practitioners involved in stone conservation describe ways in which major structural masonry problems, secondary building problems and different stone surface conditions may be treated. A variety of building types and environments has been used to ensure that the broad scope of common problems is covered. This second part of the book will be of practical value to art historians, archaeologists, architects, surveyors and engineers, masonry contractors and sculpture conservators in solving problems and in learning to use each other's skills and experience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fungus Heterobasidion annosumis, in economic terms, the most important causal agent of disease and of yield loss in coniferous trees in northern temperate regions. This is the first book which brings together and summarizes the considerable amount of knowledge which has been gathered about all aspects of this disease. It has been prepared and published with support from the European Union, under the Agriculture and Agro- Industrial Research (AAIR) program. Drawing on over 2,000 research papers and books published from the early nineteenth century to the present day, the book covers topics which include the history, detection, biology, taxonomy and distribution of H. annosum. It provides the latest information on infection, host resistance, the biochemistry of the host-parasite interaction, molecular and genetic regulation of the host response and methods of control. It concludes with a series of case studies from Europe and North America. This book is an indispensable source of information for all those involved in the management of coniferous forests and plantations wishing to reduce the impact of this disease on yields. It should also become the accepted text for students of forestry and plant pathology studying H. annosum, and an invaluable reference manual for scientists researching this and other fungal tree diseases.

Committee on Filler Metals and Allied Materials and published by . This book was released on 2013-03-11 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This specification prescribes the requirements for the classification of over 30 titanium and titanium-alloy welding electrodes and rods. Classification is based on the chemical composition of the electrode. Major topics include general requirements, testing, packaging, and application guidelines. This specification makes use of both U.S. Customary Units and the International System of Units (SI). Since these are not equivalent, each system must be used independently of the other. This specification adopts the requirements of ISO 24034 and incorporates the provisions of earlier versions of A5.16/A5.16M, allowing for classifications under both specifications.
