Si este proceso resulta de la labor que llevan a cabo determinadas personas, entonces, se tiene que estudiar con detenimiento su actuación. Sin embargo, las explicaciones en los casos de maltrato infantil se centran en las circunstancias del hecho delictivo y en los afectados, prestándose poca atención a la actividad de los responsables de clasificar a las personas en los papeles de víctima y maltratador. En este contexto, Ideología y maltrato infantil ofrece una aproximación histórico-comparativa para estudiar la labor de los Servicios de Menores desde un ángulo distinto al habitual. Así, la comparación y el análisis de los procedimientos de otros momentos históricos hace posible revisar los aspectos teóricos y abre una vía para prever los efectos del sistema actual y tomar medidas que permitan corregirlo. Esto hará posible mejorar la importante función de proteger a los niños que se encomienda a estos Servicios y lograr, así, una sociedad mejor.
