In comparison to the more commonly used impact hammers, vibratory drivers offer several advantages: (a) require less energy, (b) have higher rates of penetration of cohesionless soil, (c) produce less noise, and (d) result in less damage to the pile during driving. Presently, there are no reliable methods for estimating the bearing capacity of the pile during the driving operation. Thus, a new method for estimating the bearing capacity of structural piles installed with vibratory drivers is documented in this report The method is based on measurements of dynamic properties of the soil-pile system during driving. The method is verified by evaluating field data collected during the driving of 24 experimental piles at the National Geotechnical Experimental Site near College Station, Texas.

Book Synopsis Analysis of Vibratory Driven Pile by : Sherrill Gardner
Download or read book Analysis of Vibratory Driven Pile written by Sherrill Gardner and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vibratory pile driver has the capability of substantially decreasing pile installation time compared to the impact driven pile in certain soil conditions. Despite the increased interest in the use of this type of driver for driving and extraction, no reliable method exists for estimating the pile's bearing capacity. Field tests were conducted in San Diego, California in an effort to compare bearing capacity calculations for vibratory driven pile based on theoretical static analysis, empirical analysis using cone penetrometer test data, and dynamic driving resistance. Data obtained while driving instrumented pile is compared with predictions obtained from an analytical model. This preliminary model simulated the vibratory drive-pile-soil system. This technical note evaluates the influence of various parameters on the vibratory pile driving process.
