Download or read book Agricultural and Agribusiness Law written by Theodore A. Feitshans and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-10-05 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introductory textbook provides an overview of the concepts necessary for an understanding of agricultural and agribusiness law. The text will help students of land-based industries with little or no legal background to appreciate and identify issues which may require referral or consultation with legal counsel. Each concise chapter addresses a different legal issue that those employed in agriculture and agribusiness may face, and both federal law and representative examples of state law are included. In addition to traditional topics such as contracts, property law and estate planning, the book also covers more contemporary issues such as organic certification, animal law, genetically engineered crops and food safety. Agricultural law extends beyond those directly engaged in farming to those in agribusiness who provide services and inputs to farmers, buy farmers’ products, store or transport products, manufacture food products, and serve as intermediaries between farmers and consumers. The book will therefore also serve as a reference and a guide for those employed in agribusiness as well as agriculture.
Book Synopsis The Impact of U.S. Land Theft by : Jillian Hishaw
Download or read book The Impact of U.S. Land Theft written by Jillian Hishaw and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-10 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Without the theft of indigenous groups' lands and the exploitation of African slave labor, whites would not currently own over 95 percent of land in the U.S. Due to the forced assimilation to European religious beliefs and customs, many indigenous and former slaves compromised their native beliefs to appease European settlers. Unfortunately, the new way of life led to the five "civilized" tribes owning slaves and some former slaves joining the military to fight against tribal groups after the Civil War. As more Europeans populated the United States, the adoption of English common law beliefs of statehood and demarcation of land created our current property laws, thus replacing indigenous and African beliefs of communal living. U.S. property law was written strategically to provide land protection for whites and equip future generations to continue the European legacy of stealing land from indigenous and black landowners. Due to the history of land theft and property laws Whites now own over 95 percent of U.S. land. White Land Theft explores the history of European settlement in the Plain States and the present-day land loss of both exploited communities. Hishaw's recommendations of land reparations and how to disburse it, along with legal analysis related to tax credits, are backed up by industry interviews and her 15 years of professional experience. White Land Theft is a factual justification for land reparations supported by extensive research.

Book excerpt: Agriculture is one of America's leading industries, generating $835 billion in economic activity in 2014--about 5 percent of the nation's gross domestic product--and employing more than 9 percent of the nation's workforce. Yet until now, there's been no single volume on the law of agricultural land preservation. This book covers the legal principles, federal and state legal requirements, and legal issues that have arisen in the implementation of public and private agricultural preservation programs, federal tax and estate laws, court cases, and landowner financial issues and options that affect agricultural land preservation efforts.Agricultural land preservation can help farmers and ranchers by providing needed capital to strengthen the profitability of the agricultural operation, facilitate the transfer of the farm or ranch to the next generation, and offer an alternative to selling land for development. This book provides practical, current guidance for attorneys advising landowning clients who wish to explore agricultural land preservation options, in addition to those who advise private, nonprofit land trusts or government agencies that preserve farmland.

Book excerpt: Farming and the Law is the first publication in Ireland, in over a decade, dealing specifically with legal issues that arise in farming. It offers a comprehensive overview of the legal issues of which farmers should be aware, in an increasingly complex and regulated environment. This book serves to demystify and decipher the often incomprehensible jargon associated with the law as it relates to farming. Irish farming has changed significantly over the years, and it continues to evolve. In a short space of time, it has become more bureaucratic and regulated. Specialist knowledge is required to fully appreciate the problems that farmers face today, as many decisions carry legal, tax, and practical implications. Farmers and landowners who keep abreast of current laws and regulations will be empowered to make better decisions for their farming business. This book is designed to be accessible to the layperson, including farmers, members of the public, and anyone interested in the law in relation to farming. It also will provide an invaluable reference for legal practitioners advising clients in this particular area of law. [Subject: Property Law, Irish Law, Farm Law]Ã?Â?Ã?Â?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Farmland tenure shapes many farm decisions, including those related to production, conservation, and succession planning. The relatively advanced age of many farmers raises questions abut land ownership, especially how land will be transferred to the next generation of agricultural landowners and operators. This study provides a descriptive baseline analysis of land ownership and then focuses on more detailed aspects of land tenure, including non-operator landlords, rental agreements, the acquisition and transfer of land, and how decisionmaking is shared by landlords and their tenants. The report is designed to support broad discussions related to agricultural land ownership and to provide a starting point for more detailed statistical analysis. Figures and tables.
