This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolution of basic industrial circuits for the extraction of gold, uranium, and pyrite from Witwatersrand (WWR) ores is described. Special emphasis is placed on the influence of the mineralogical composition of the ore on the choice of the various circuits that have been used for the treatment of the three major types of WWR ore: banket, carbon seam, and pyritic quartzite. The impact of recent developments in the processing of WWR ores on the basic metallurgical circuits and possible future trends in the extractive metallurgy of WWR ores are discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An account is given of the developments that have taken place in the extraction of gold from Witwatersrand ores. They are attributed to the introduction of processes for the extraction of the small amounts of uranium present in the ores; to the advances in technology resulting from scientific studies of the processes involved; and to recent sharp increases in the gold price and in working costs. Processing for uranium extraction has encouraged the use of separate high-grade and low-grade circuits, and of a 'reverse-leach' process in which acid leaching for the dissolution of uranium precedes cyanidation. Uranium extraction has also created a market for pyrite, which is used for the manufacture of sulphuric acid. The ways in which these factors benefit the extraction of gold are explained. Scientific studies and advances in technology have led, among other developments, to: an increased use of run-of-mine milling; the introduction of the carbon-in-pulp process for the adsorption of gold and electrolytic recovery of the eluted gold; the design of a wet high-intensity magnetic separator that is free from blockage by wood pulp for the recovery of gold and uranium in cyanidation residues; the development of a multi-variable mill-control system; techniques for the treatment of gravity concentrates other than amalgamation; a centrifugal mill for underground milling; and the production of gold of high purity by electrorefining. The increased price of gold has made the re-treatment of cyanidation residues profitable, and various processes have been developed for this purpose. Similarly, the higher capital and operating costs have encouraged simpler, more economical flowsheets, which involve large items of equipment and automatic sorting methods.

Book Synopsis Advances in Gold Ore Processing by : Mike D. Adams
Download or read book Advances in Gold Ore Processing written by Mike D. Adams and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-12-02 with total page 1077 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The gold processing industry is experiencing change. As free-milling and oxide ores become depleted, more complex polymetallic and refractory ores are being processed, coupled with increasing pressure for stricter environmental compliance. Recent years have also seen a steady reduction in mineral processing and metallurgy graduates and a gradual loss of older operating experience. A contribution to documenting current and future best practice in gold ore processing seems timely. The focus of this volume is on advances in current gold plant operation, from conception to closure; chapters also cover innovations at the bench and pilot-scale level that would be expected to find commercial application at some stage. Sufficient coverage is also given to the chemistry and engineering aspects. The general principle behind the structure of the volume is that of flowsheeting based on unit operations and applied to a mineralogical classification of gold ore types. From concept to closure, this book covers all unit operations, mineralogies and processes that are relevant to dealing with today's complex orebodies. Practical experience is vital to the successful development, operation and closure of any operation. The 42 chapters have been contributed by a total of 66 authors and co-authors who are experts from countries spanning the globe, and representing exhaustive practical knowledge covering many disciplines relevant to gold processing. * Current best practice as elucidated by a select panel of experts in the field* Innovations at the bench and pilot-scale level that would be expected to find commercial application at some stage* Mineralogical-based approach to flowsheeting
