Book excerpt: Staticanalysisisaresearchareaaimedatdevelopingprinciplesandtoolsforv- i?cation and semantics-based manipulation of programs and high-performance implementations of programming languages. The series of Static Analysis s- posia has served as the primary venue for presentation and discussion of th- retical, practical, and application advances in the area. This volume contains the papers accepted for presentation at the 10th - ternational Static Analysis Symposium (SAS 2003),which was held June 11–13, 2003 in San Diego, California, USA. Firmly established as a leading forum in the static analysis area, SAS 2003 received 82 high-quality submissions. Each paper was carefully reviewed, being judgedaccordingtoscienti?cquality, originality, andrelevancetothesymposium topics. Following on-line discussions, the program committee met in Paris, France, ́ at the Ecole Normale Sup ́ erieure on March 15, 2003, and selected 25 papers. In addition to the contributed papers, this volume includes an invited paper by Manuel Hermenegildo (Technical University of Madrid and University of New Mexico)and the abstractof aninvited talk by KenMcMillan (Cadence Berkeley Laboratories). On behalf of the Program Committee and the General Chair, I would like to thank the authors of the submitted papers, and the external referees, who p- vided timely and signi?cant reviews. I owe special thanks to Jacques Beigbeder ́ from Ecole Normale Sup ́ erieure for managing the submission site and the dev- opers of CyberChair for the use of their software. On this occasion, SAS was sponsored by the Association for Computing - chinery(ACM) andwasheld aspartofthe FederatedComputing ResearchC- ference (FCRC 2003). Book Synopsis Formal Methods for Components and Objects by : Frank S. de Boer
Download or read book Formal Methods for Components and Objects written by Frank S. de Boer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-11-11 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All modern industries rely on large and complex software systems. In order to construct such large systems in a systematic manner, the focus of the development methodologies has switched in the last two decades from functional to structural issues. Formal methods have been applied successfully to the verification of medium-sized programs in protocol and hardware design. However, their application to the development of large systems requires a greater emphasis on specification, modeling, and validation techniques supporting the concepts of reusability and modifiability, and their implementation in new extensions of existing programming languages like Java. This state-of-the-art survey presents the outcome of the 8th Symposium on Formal Methods for Components and Objects, held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in November 2009. The volume contains 17 revised contributions submitted after the symposium by speakers from each of the following European IST projects: the IST-FP6 project BIONETS on biologically inspired services evolution for the pervasive age; the IST-FP7 project COMPAS on compliance-driven models, languages, and architectures for services; the IST-FP6 project CREDO on modelling and analysis of evolutionary structures for distributed services; the IST-FP7 DEPLOY on industrial deployment of advanced system engineering methods for high productivity and dependability; the IST-FP7 project HATS on highly adaptable and trustworthy software using formal methods; the IST-FP7 project INESS on integrated European railway signalling system; the IST-FP7 project MOGENTES on model-based generation of tests for dependable embedded systems; the IST-FP6 project PROTEST on property based testing; and the IST-FP7 project QUASIMODO on quantitative system properties in model-driven-design of embedded systems.

APLAS 2004 is the ?fth such meeting and the second one in symposium setting. The ?rst symposium was held in Beijing last year. The success of the APLAS series is the collective result of many people’s contributions.ForAPLAS2004,?rstIwouldliketothankallthemembersofthe Program Committee, in particular the Program Chair Wei-Ngan Chin, for their hardworkinputtingtogetheranexcellentprogram.Iammostgratefultoinvited speakers, Joxan Ja?ar, Frank Pfenning, and Martin Odersky, who have traveled a long way to deliver their speeches at APLAS 2004. I would like to thank all the referees, who helped review the manuscripts, the authors, who contributed to the proceedings of APLAS 2004, the members of the Organizing Committee, who made considerable e?ort to organize this event, and all the participants present at this meeting.
