Book Synopsis Epitranscriptomics: The Novel RNA Frontier by : Giovanni Nigita
Download or read book Epitranscriptomics: The Novel RNA Frontier written by Giovanni Nigita and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2019-01-31 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the formulation of the central dogma of molecular biology and the later discovery of classes of non-coding RNAs, the primary focus of Genetics was essentially on variation of DNA aiming at elucidating biological pathways perturbed in diseases. Recently, extensive attention has shifted towards the study of posttranscriptional RNA modifications occurring in both protein-coding as well as non-coding RNAs, revealing a novel and finer layer of complexity in gene regulation. This, in turn, has led to the birth of the novel field of ‘Epitranscriptomics’. The recent increase of applications of high-throughput sequencing technology (HTS) has allowed the unprecedented opportunity to identify on a transcriptome-wide scale, millions of RNA modifications in human genes, counting today more than 140 distinct types such as: methylation (e.g. m6A, m1A, m5C, hm5C, 2’OMe) methylation (e.g. m6A, m1A, m5C, hm5C, 2’OMe), pseudourylation (?), deamination (e.g. A-to-I RNA editing). The scope of this Research Topic was to collect both reviews and research articles addressing the wet lab approaches and bioinformatics methodologies necessary to aid in the identification of novel RNA modifications and characterization of their biological functions. Among the articles embracing the aim of the Research Topic, we have collected four original research and methods articles, five reviews, and a technology article.

Book Synopsis Novel Ways and Methodologies to Improve Crop Yield by : Oorbessy Gaju
Download or read book Novel Ways and Methodologies to Improve Crop Yield written by Oorbessy Gaju and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-11-01 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global population is increasing at a much faster pace than an increase in the genetic gain for food production by plant breeding. Therefore, we must find ways or methods to improve our food production if we are to ensure food security for all. This special edition is about the novel ways or methodologies that crop or plant scientists are working on to improve crop yield. This could fall under the physiological, biochemical, molecular, or even any novel technological approaches such as phenotyping to rapidly select or find traits that are vital for the improvement of current germplasm to make them resilient to an ever-changing environment. Crop yield, especially grain yield, is a very complex trait to deconvolute and understand as it is influenced by so many factors. With the recent unprecedented weather events where plants are subjected to extreme temperatures (low and high), it is imperative to find ways quickly to screen for varieties that can withstand these changes. Novel ways or methods in the various disciplines (physiology, molecular, phenotyping, biochemical) that can help to identify rapidly the traits related to yield in crops that can lead to an increase in productivity will be informative and help the scientific community to be up to date with recent progress.
