Download or read book Encyclopedia of Sustainability [3 volumes] written by Robin Morris Collin and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2009-12-09 with total page 891 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This three-volume encyclopedia explores the concept of sustainability in the contexts of the environment, economics, and justice. This expansive encyclopedia breaks new ground, giving definition and focus to an urgent and much-talked-about topic that is extraordinarily wide ranging and all too often misunderstood. As the first major reference work in its field, the three comprehensive volumes span the entire scope of sustainability from ecological concepts to financial concerns to public policy and community action, giving readers a solid foundation from which to think critically about efforts to make a more sustainable world. The Encyclopedia of Sustainability comprises three volumes, each dedicated to one of three equally important contexts in which the term is used: environment and ecology, business and economics, and equity and fairness. Each volume provides authoritative but accessible coverage of basic concepts and terms, as well as policy initiatives, controversies, and future trends. Volumes also include biographical sketches of important contributors to sustainability efforts from the scientific, economic, public policy, and activist realms, plus extensive listings of print and online resources for further exploration.

Download or read book Today's Civil Rights and Liberties Issues written by Kara E. Stooksbury and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2023-06-30 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This indispensable, one-stop resource examines where Democrats and Republicans stand on current civil rights and civil liberties issues related to voting, free speech, abortion and reproductive rights, guns, and other hot button topics. Both the Democratic and Republican parties claim that they have the best interests of the nation and its people at heart, and they are equally adamant that they have the best policy solutions to address the nation's problems and challenges. Each volume in the Across the Aisle reference series examines the stated policy positions and actual voting/legislative records of the two parties (they are not always the same) on important areas of public policy, both historically and in the present day. This volume sorts through the rhetorical clutter and partisan distortions that typify so many disputes between Republicans and Democrats and provides an accurate, balanced, and even-handed overview of the parties' attitudes and records on vital civil rights and liberties questions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this thesis is to help Environmental Justice Communities reduce public health threat related to abandon buildings with supports from the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Collaborative Problem-solving Program. This program provides $100,000 dollars and Collaborative Problem-Solving Model (CPS Model) as guideline for qualified projects. Cincinnati's Environmental Justice communities have severer public health issues than non-Environmental Justice Communities. The research shows abandoned buildings problem is a public health threat and an Environmental Justice issue. Project renovating abandoned buildings related with Environmental Justice issues in Cincinnati's Environmental Justice communities is qualified to apply EPA Environmental Justice grant and should be a priority. The CPS Model working with other methods addressing buildings abandonment problem can continuously help Environmental Justice communities efficiently organize and leverage resources. To address Environmental Justice concerns related with buildings abandonment, three key elements are recommended: setting goals strategically, building community capacity, and establishing multi-stakeholder partnerships.
