Book Synopsis Environmental Hydraulics by : Vijay Singh
Download or read book Environmental Hydraulics written by Vijay Singh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-08-31 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Triggerd primarily byill effects of polluted air, soil and water resources on living species, public concern for environmental quality has been growing during the past four decades or so. One manifestation of this concern is found in occurrence of public debates as well as in the demand for full environmental impact assessment before a water-resources project is approved. Engineering soundness and economic feasibility are no longer sufficient criteria for construction of hydraulic works. As a result, environmental considerations have become very much a part of hydraulic analyses. In response to growing environmental concerns, the field of hydraulics has expanded and a new branch, called Environmental Hydraulics, has emerged. The focus of this branch is on hydraulic analyses of those environmental issues that are important for protection, restoration, and managementof environmental quality. The motivation for this book grew out of the desire to provide a hydraulic discussion of some of the key environmental issues. It is hoped that the book would serve to stimulate others to write more comprehensive texts on this subject of growing importance.

Book Synopsis Experimental Hydraulics: Methods, Instrumentation, Data Processing and Management by : Jochen Aberle
Download or read book Experimental Hydraulics: Methods, Instrumentation, Data Processing and Management written by Jochen Aberle and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-07-20 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second volume of a two-volume guide to designing, conducting and interpreting laboratory and field experiments in a broad range of topics associated with hydraulic engineering. Specific guidance is provided on methods and instruments currently used in experimental hydraulics, with emphasis on new and emerging measurement technologies and methods of analysis. Additionally, this book offers a concise outline of essential background theory, underscoring the intrinsic connection between theory and experiments. This book is much needed, as experimental hydraulicians have had to refer to guidance scattered in scientific papers or specialized monographs on essential aspects of laboratory and fieldwork practice. The book is the result of the first substantial effort in the community of hydraulic engineering to describe in one place all the components of experimental hydraulics. Included is the work of a team of more than 45 professional experimentalists, who explore innovative approaches to the vast array of experiments of differing complexity encountered by today’s hydraulic engineer, from laboratory to field, from simple but well-conceived to complex and well-instrumented. The style of this book is intentionally succinct, making frequent use of convenient summaries, tables and examples to present information. All researchers, practitioners, and students conducting or evaluating experiments in hydraulics will find this book useful.

Book Synopsis Hydraulics in Civil and Environmental Engineering by : Andrew Chadwick
Download or read book Hydraulics in Civil and Environmental Engineering written by Andrew Chadwick and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-06-07 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic text, now in its sixth edition, combines a thorough coverage of the basic principles of civil engineering hydraulics with a wide-ranging treatment of practical, real-world applications. It now includes a powerful online resource with worked solutions for chapter problems and solution spreadsheets for more complex problems that may be used as templates for similar issues. Hydraulics in Civil and Environmental Engineering is structured into two parts to deal with principles and more advanced topics. The first part focuses on fundamentals, such as hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, pipe and open channel flow, wave theory, physical modelling, hydrology and sediment transport. The second part illustrates engineering applications of these principles to pipeline system design, hydraulic structures, river and coastal engineering, including up-to-date environmental implications, as well as a chapter on computational modelling, illustrating the application of computational simulation techniques to modern design, in a variety of contexts. New material and additional problems for solution have been added to the chapters on hydrostatics, pipe flow and dimensional analysis. The hydrology chapter has been revised to reflect updated UK flood estimation methods, data and software. The recommendations regarding the assessment of uncertainty, climate change predictions, impacts and adaptation measures have been updated, as has the guidance on the application of computational simulation techniques to river flood modelling. Andrew Chadwick is an honorary professor of coastal engineering and the former associate director of the Marine Institute at the University of Plymouth, UK. John Morfett was the head of hydraulics research and taught at the University of Brighton, UK. Martin Borthwick is a consultant hydrologist, formerly a flood hydrology advisor at the UK’s Environment Agency, and previously an associate professor at the University of Plymouth, UK.
Book Synopsis Water Resources and Hydraulics by : Xixi Wang
Download or read book Water Resources and Hydraulics written by Xixi Wang and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-01-07 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exciting new textbook introduces the concepts and tools essential for upper-level undergraduate study in water resources and hydraulics. Tailored specifically to fit the length of a typical one-semester course, it will prove a valuable resource to students in civil engineering, water resources engineering, and environmental engineering. It will also serve as a reference textbook for researchers, practicing water engineers, consultants, and managers. Each experiment ends with discussion topics and questions to help students better understand the content of the experiment. This manual mainly serves as a textbook for an environmental and hydraulics engineering laboratory course. Professionals and water/wastewater treatment plant managers may also find this manual of value for their daily jobs. In addition, students in related areas can use this manual as a reference and the general public may use it to educate themselves on water quality testing and water flow.
Book Synopsis Environmental Hydraulics by : Ioannis Tsanis
Download or read book Environmental Hydraulics written by Ioannis Tsanis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-03-26 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrodynamic and pollutant transport models are useful tools for evaluating remediation options for polluted water bodies. These models span the range from highly theoretical, fine resolution, physically-based designs to lumped, black-box representations of real world phenomena. This book examines the numerical approaches used in hydrodynamic and pollutant transport modeling. First, the theory and physical basis of transport and mixing in lakes and coastal waters are provided. Methodologies that use a three-dimensional (3D) approach to predicting the fate and transport of pollutants are presented and this is followed by a presentation of alternatives to 3D circulation modeling as well as new advances in the field. These alternatives offer near 3D accuracy but without the computational burden. Illustrations of the calibration and verification of these models using laboratory data, as well as, field data are also provided. The models are applied to a diverse array of study sites ranging from The Great Lakes in North America to the coastal areas of Northern Crete. * Presents the theory of hydrodynamic and pollutant transport modelling in lakes and coastal areas * Thoroughly examines the issues and limitations of the numerical approaches used in hydrodynamic and pollutant transport modelling * Demonstrates the calibration and verification of hydrodynamic and pollutant transport models using laboratory and field data
