Book Synopsis Enumeration of Finite Groups by : Simon R. Blackburn
Download or read book Enumeration of Finite Groups written by Simon R. Blackburn and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-10-18 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many groups of order n are there? This is a natural question for anyone studying group theory, and this Tract provides an exhaustive and up-to-date account of research into this question spanning almost fifty years. The authors presuppose an undergraduate knowledge of group theory, up to and including Sylow's Theorems, a little knowledge of how a group may be presented by generators and relations, a very little representation theory from the perspective of module theory, and a very little cohomology theory - but most of the basics are expounded here and the book is more or less self-contained. Although it is principally devoted to a connected exposition of an agreeable theory, the book does also contain some material that has not hitherto been published. It is designed to be used as a graduate text but also as a handbook for established research workers in group theory.

This book was released on 2023-10-23 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the tenth in a series of volumes whose aim is to provide a complete proof of the classification theorem for the finite simple groups based on a fairly short and clearly enumerated set of background results. Specifically, this book completes our identification of the simple groups of bicharacteristic type begun in the ninth volume of the series (see SURV/40.9). This is a fascinating set of simple groups which have properties in common with matrix groups (or, more generally, groups of Lie type) defined both over fields of characteristic 2 and over fields of characteristic 3. This set includes 11 of the celebrated 26 sporadic simple groups along with several of their large simple subgroups. Together with SURV/40.9, this volume provides the first unified treatment of this class of simple groups.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the top experts in the fields of combinatorics and representation theory, this book distinguishes itself from the existing literature by its applications-oriented point of view. The second edition is extended, placing more emphasis on applications to the constructive theory of finite structures. Recent progress in this field, in particular in design and coding theory, is described.
Book Synopsis Algorithmic and Experimental Methods in Algebra, Geometry, and Number Theory by : Gebhard Böckle
Download or read book Algorithmic and Experimental Methods in Algebra, Geometry, and Number Theory written by Gebhard Böckle and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 753 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents state-of-the-art research and survey articles that highlight work done within the Priority Program SPP 1489 “Algorithmic and Experimental Methods in Algebra, Geometry and Number Theory”, which was established and generously supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) from 2010 to 2016. The goal of the program was to substantially advance algorithmic and experimental methods in the aforementioned disciplines, to combine the different methods where necessary, and to apply them to central questions in theory and practice. Of particular concern was the further development of freely available open source computer algebra systems and their interaction in order to create powerful new computational tools that transcend the boundaries of the individual disciplines involved. The book covers a broad range of topics addressing the design and theoretical foundations, implementation and the successful application of algebraic algorithms in order to solve mathematical research problems. It offers a valuable resource for all researchers, from graduate students through established experts, who are interested in the computational aspects of algebra, geometry, and/or number theory.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Number Theory I by : József Sándor
Download or read book Handbook of Number Theory I written by József Sándor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-11-17 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook covers a wealth of topics from number theory, special attention being given to estimates and inequalities. As a rule, the most important results are presented, together with their refinements, extensions or generalisations. These may be applied to other aspects of number theory, or to a wide range of mathematical disciplines. Cross-references provide new insight into fundamental research. Audience: This is an indispensable reference work for specialists in number theory and other mathematicians who need access to some of these results in their own fields of research.

Book Synopsis Combinatorial Enumeration of Groups, Graphs, and Chemical Compounds by : Georg Polya
Download or read book Combinatorial Enumeration of Groups, Graphs, and Chemical Compounds written by Georg Polya and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1937 there appeared a paper that was to have a profound influence on the progress of combinatorial enumeration, both in its theoretical and applied aspects. Entitled Kombinatorische Anzahlbest immungen jUr Gruppen, Graphen und chemische Verbindungen, it was published in Acta Mathematica, Vol. 68, pp. 145 to 254. Its author, George Polya, was already a mathematician of considerable stature, well-known for outstanding work in many branches of mathematics, particularly analysis. The paper in Question was unusual in that it depended almost entirely on a single theorem -- the "Hauptsatz" of Section 4 -- a theorem which gave a method for solving a general type of enumera tion problem. On the face of it, this is not something that one would expect to run to over 100 pages. Yet the range of the applica tions of the theorem and of its ramifications was enormous, as Polya clearly showed. In the various sections of his paper he explored many applications to the enumeration of graphs, principally trees, and of chemical isomers, using his theorem to present a comprehen sive and unified treatment of problems which had previously been solved, if at all, only by ad hoc methods. In the final section he investigated the asymptotic properties of these enumerational results, bringing to bear his formidable insight as an analyst
