Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enuma Elish, the Babylonian version of the story of creation, predates much of the Book of Genesis. Passed down orally for generations until finally being recorded on seven clay tablets, this epic was discovered by 19th-century archeologists among the ruins of the Library of King Ashurbanipal in modern-day Iraq. Translator and editor L.W. King has divided the Seven Tablets of Creation into two volumes, which are combined in this book. In Volume 1, readers will find the English translation of each of the seven tablets, plus sections on the composition of the poem, parallels in Hebrew literature, and the reconstruction and arrangement of the text. In Volume 2, readers will find other accounts of the history of creation, an index, a glossary, and numerous indices and appendices. Religious scholars and anyone interested in human origins will enjoy King's translation of and commentary on this classic, first published in 1902. British classical scholar LEONARD W. KING (1869-1919) was Assistant Keeper of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities at the British Museum and professor of Assyrian and Babylonian archaeology at the University of London, King's College. He also wrote Babylonian Magic and Sorcery (1896) and A History of Sumer and Akkad (1910).

This book was released on 1999-07 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Babylonian and Assyrian Legends Concerning the Creation of the World and of Mankind. The Enuma Elish is one of the oldest stories known to mankind. It is a story first written down by the ancient Sumerians thousands of years ago. As a one time assistant in the Department of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities at the British Museum, L.W. King provides us with a qualified translation of the tablets which were originally written in cuneiform script. The Enuma Elish is receiving renewed interest from modern researchers delving into the origins of mankind, the earth, and the solar system. Over the centuries a copy ended up in the library at Nineveh in the 7th century B.C., and was uncovered by archaeologists in the late 1800s. Written in cuneiform text and preserved on seven clay tablets, the entire story was called "The Seven Tablets of Creation." After being translated the story revealed how the planets became aligned, how a cosmic catastrophe affected the earth, how mankind came upon the scene, and how the "gods" played a role in all of it. The Seven Tablets of Creation have had many profound implications since they were first discovered and subsequently published. They predate many parts of the Book of Genesis as well as other worldwide creation myths. Volume One includes this epic poem's English translation. It also includes information on parallels in Hebrew literature, the date and origin of the Babylonian creation legends, and more. Volume Two includes other accounts of creation, an Assyrian "Tower of Dabel" story, and supplementary texts showing the actual cuneiform tablets.

Book excerpt: The word Atrahasis means extra wise and refers to the earliest known name of Noah, who built an ark and saved mankind from destruction. This is that story, from ancient Sumeria, which many scholars believe was the original from which all known flood stories came from. This was the most popular story in the ancient world and has survived for over five thousand years. It is the only one that all cultures, worldwide, seem to share. Why? Was there really a great flood? And why do we not explore the oldest known version carefully for clues? That is the purpose of this book, which also includes a number of other interesting flood story fragments and documents.

Also known as "The Hymn of the Pearl", it is an allegorical tale. Instead of an outer journey, as it first seems, it is interpreted here as a deeper, inner one. It contains a message that can be quite profound, depending on the reader's level of spiritual understanding. This book works on the inner psyche, creating an interactive balance, in some cases, between the upper (hidden) and lower (physical) worlds. That was the aim of many Gnostic stories, poems and parables. With that in mind, this book has much to offer.

These stories strongly match the Old Testament and originate from clay tablets discovered in ancient Sumeria and Babylonia. They are the oldest preserved stories the world has ever known, revealed in this interesting book and passed down for many centuries before being adopted by whoever wrote the Old Testament. It seems the Word of God may not have come in its entirety from God, but gods. It is important that the earliest sources of our belief systems be examined. That is the purpose of this book.

Book excerpt: This is the second of a two-volume collection of studies on inconsistencies in Greek and Roman religion. Their common aim is to argue for the historical relevance of various types of ambiguity and dissonance. While the first volume focused on the central paradoxes in ancient henotheism, the present one discusses the ambiguities in myth and ritual of transition and reversal. After an introduction to the history of the myth and ritual debate (with a focus on New Year festivals and initiation) in the first chapter, the second and third chapters discuss myth and ritual of reversal—Kronos and the Kronia, and Saturnus and the Saturnalia respectively; the fourth treats two women's festivals—that of Bona Dea and the Thesmophoria; the fifth investigates the initiatory aspects of Apollo and Mars. In the background is the basic conviction that the three approaches to religion known as 'substantivistic', functionalist and cultural-symbolic respectively, need not be mutually exclusive.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental structure of the universe, from the particle and the atom to the biological evolution of organisms such as the eye and ear, exist because of the harmonic relationships of waves. The most significant characteristic of the human species to evolve was advanced communication abilities resulting from the perception of harmonics. This perception led directly to the unique biological morphology of the human vocal apparatus and the correlative neurocranial expansion of the auditory, memory, and language regions of the brain. New research is conclusively demonstrating that the modern human capacity for advanced language was in tact by approximately 200,000 B.C.E. and that the earliest advanced technologies to be created were harmonic sound and language devices. To date, there has never been a thorough examining or explanation of why the harmonic component emerged, nor has a model been discovered or developed to define and elucidate the harmonic structure of language which is the unifying mechanism of all fields. Within this treatise, a new harmonic model of Euclidean space is presented which elucidates the fundamental harmonic identities of numbers and their relationships within a naturally occurring resonant field system. This model is then applied to various harmonic phenomena in contrasting wave based fields to demonstrate unified harmonic structure and function. As a pièce de résistance, it is shown that the harmonic mechanisms which create the triangularity of vowel formant perception and the resultant Euclidean harmonic circularity of vowel space, is synonymous to the ocular cone trichromacy forming color perception and the resultant Euclidean harmonic circularity of color space. Due to the underlying harmonic frequency substrate of both these phenomena, an expanded harmonic correlation is demonstrated with wide ranging repercussions. One such consequence being the ability to linguistically transfer the categorical perception of harmonic structure from one field to another providing a plethora of new harmonic investigative and analytical tools for every wave based field. The core of the information presented herein is demonstrated through the medium of sound and the organizing harmonic elements of music language. Accordingly, the integral components of language formant vowels and consonants, color trichromacy, and dual harmonic frequency/wavelength systems are unified in an applied model which has been tested for the past decade showing fundamental harmonic cohesion and discourse between the underlying phenomena. Though this treatise is a scholarly presentation, it is designed to be accessible to a wide and diverse educated audience due to the sheer scope of facts presented from multiple niche disciplines to which no single scholar could be expected to possess an expert command. It is thus a comprehensive panorama of harmonic structure providing a never-before-seen perspective harmonic correlation between seemingly unrelated fields. As much as this treatise is an extensive exposition of the structure of harmonics, it is also an engaging expose of harmonic evolution within the biology of multiple species and the systems of color, language, and music. It has therefore been defined as a Rosetta Stone which not only provides for the decoding of fundamental evolutionary harmonic correlations between wide ranging organisms, but also provides new tools to investigate, analyze, and evolve the next frontier of harmonic order.
