Yet, some books teach business with minimal focus on the context for business. In reality, firms — large and small — are highly affected by the context in which they operate; yet, context is not uniformly conceptualized, theorized, and operationalized by scholars of business and management. While most theories have come from developed countries with bountiful contexts, the diverse contexts of Western Asia are little understood. Religious factors are profoundly dominant in Western Asia, and businesses in this diverse area operate with considerations that are rarely considered in research. This book reveals a variety of schools of thought that have molded several business models and mechanisms, which are, to some extent, different from the context of Western economies.

What is evident is due to its positive and negative connotations in society. This book identifies that it is important to debate the topic of entrepreneurship in order to understand its multi-faceted nature. This edited book includes a number of chapters that discuss multidimensional perspectives from an international perspective. This book emphasizes the geo-political frontiers related to entrepreneurship based on current debates, which includes recent global changes. This book also challenges the debatable as to whether entrepreneurship should be examined at the individual, firm, regional, or industry level. This book goes further to demonstrate that this depends on the type and nature of the study. Therefore, it is better to consider entrepreneurship in a multidimensional way that incorporates different levels of analysis. This book shows each level of analysis that can be considered from a geo-political perspective. This means including an overview of the cultural factors that influence entrepreneurial behavior. In this way, this book helps readers to understand how and why geography and politics influence entrepreneurial action.

Book excerpt: Over the years, the education sector has witnessed substantial transformations and developments, driven primarily by the rapid growth of technology and inventive pedagogical approaches. In the MENA region, these changes have been particularly noteworthy, as educational institutions are striving to keep pace with global advancements while addressing unique regional challenges. Set against this context, this book delves into two pivotal dimensions that have surfaced as vital for thriving in today's educational sphere, with a strong emphasis on the MENA region's distinct characteristics and opportunities. The first dimension explores the evolution and challenges in governance, encompassing the organizational frameworks, decision-making mechanisms, and policies that empower educational institutions in the MENA region to adapt to the shifting environment. The second dimension zeroes in on the metamorphosis of education itself, emphasizing the innovative tools, assignments, and methodologies that are accessible to educators in the region, and discussing the balance between these elements and effective university governance. By offering an exhaustive and up-to-date examination of these two dimensions, this book imparts invaluable insights and pragmatic guidance to educational professionals, policymakers, and students alike, all with a focus on the MENA region. It aims to equip readers with the knowledge and abilities required to successfully navigate the new educational landscape and excel in the world of academia while highlighting the unique potential and prospects of the region's educational institutions.

Book excerpt: This book delves into the economic development of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Since the 1960s, the GCC states have harnessed their potential to exploit the wealth accrued from the oil boom to build their infrastructure and grow their economies. However, the high level of dependency on oil as the primary source feeding their output made their economies volatile and vulnerable to fluctuations in the global oil prices. Moreover, the plunge in oil prices and the threat of depletion of this natural resource pose serious challenges to the GCC countries. Consequently, the GCC governments have realized the importance of diversifying their economies following the need to move away from reliance on hydrocarbon. This book contributes to the theoretical literature by enriching the debate on the transition of the GCC countries from rentier states to diversified economies. It helps students and scholars understand this transformation with an expansive comprehension of the contemporary challenges facing the region, as well as outlining prospects for the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The economies of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are heavily reliant on oil. Greater economic diversification would reduce their exposure to volatility and uncertainty in the global oil market, help create jobs in the private sector, increase productivity and sustainable growth, and help create the non-oil economy that will be needed in the future when oil revenues start to dwindle. The GCC countries have followed many of the standard policies that are usually thought to promote more diversified economies, including reforms to improve the business climate, the development of domestic infrastructure, financial deepening, and improvements in education. Nevertheless, success to date has been limited. This paper argues that increased diversification will require realigning incentives for firms and workers in the economies—fixing these incentives is the “missing link” in the GCC countries’ diversification strategies. At present, producing non-tradables is less risky and more profitable for firms as they can benefit from the easy availability of low-wage foreign labor and the rapid growth in government spending, while the continued availability of high-paying and secure public sector jobs discourages nationals from pursuing entrepreneurship and private sector employment. Measures to begin to address these incentive issues could include limiting and reorienting government spending, strengthening private sector competition, providing guarantees and financial support for those firms engaged in export activity, and implementing labor market reforms to make nationals more competitive for private sector employment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Hanadi Mubarak, Ali Husain and Michael promote the concept of innovation incubators from a business-management perspective. The book provides a comprehensive roadmap for the development of new economies based on technology, as well as value added in technology transfer, innovation development and an entrepreneurial climate. Many books on innovation and entrepreneurship take a theoretical approach, presenting a selection of examples that may not reflect reality. However, this compendium of innovation and entrepreneurship case studies is based on the practical experience of executives and managers regarding the undertaking of projects within their industry and company. It is this practical approach, emphasizing enterprise-wide projects as a consequence of the current economic reality that differentiates this book from conventional texts on innovation and entrepreneurship. This investigation uses successful international case studies based on models in developed and developing countries. It argues that innovation incubators must be adopted by Arab countries to support diversification of their economies, the commercialization of new technologies, job creation and foster an entrepreneurial climate. The book presents research and case studies, which provide new insights into practices for undertaking projects that both executive and project managers will find interesting and useful for the advancement of their enterprises, particularly in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Book excerpt: Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management: A New Approach to Innovation for GCC Entrepreneurs provides insight into the GCC business system and practices, a discussion of the entrepreneurial and SMEs activities, cases of innovation and startups, an overview of the challenges to create an innovative environment, and explains the steps that are needed to create a new venture. When we speak of small businesses in the GCC region, we are referring to more than one million small firms. Business education, innovation, and entrepreneurial development, however, fall short of what exists in other developed economies. As the authors engaged in the practice of small business management as well as education about small business management at the university level in the GCC, they felt that more specific tools were needed to make business education relevant to this region. One of these tools was a textbook that applies a more regionally appropriate approach to the activities, examples, cases, roles, and laws of the GCC. In particular, this textbook discusses: A conceptual framework for entrepreneurship and innovation development globally as well as specifically in the GCC The GCC business system from a historical and economic perspective (Islam & Oil, GCC Trade Integration, Labor Markets, and Demographics) The challenges facing innovation in small business in the GCC: Legal, Education, Culture, managerial development, corporate governance, and financing. The legal environment The regulatory environment for small businesses (Obtaining a business license, approval of special requirements, IP, Etc) How to create a business plan Definition of entrepreneurship: characteristics and qualities Explanations of critical business functions to develop an enterprise

The infodemic, based on the pandemic (COVID-19), is another serious challenge for the world at this time. Each flare-up is joined with a large volume of data and information; however, this data can be based on deception, gossip, rumors, and more. Misinformation not only impacts the human body negatively but also impacts mental health. The infodemic has an impact on human health and professional performance, but also leaks into business organizations in terms of financial matters, employees' psychological and physical health, employee performance, and the organization’s performance. The misinformation regarding health issues can disturb business organizations and affect the employees, organizations’ market share and financial matters, future firing and hiring policies of the organizations, and international operations of the companies. Though the COVID-19 pandemic may be over in time, the impact of the relevant infodemic will continue to disrupt business organizations for several years into the future. Impact of Infodemic on Organizational Performance highlights the impact of the infodemic due to the pandemic (COVID-19) in organizations’ performance and enhances the understanding of how the infodemic can and has negatively impacted employees as well as organizational performance. This is supplemented by a view of how organizations are tackling the infodemic and how business organizations can recover from the lasting negative impacts. This book highlights essential topics such as social media, knowledge management, business environments, business strategies, employee behavior, and mental health. The target audience includes but is not limited to managers, executives, human resource development, counselors, analysts, business organizations, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students who are interested in the impacts of the infodemic on businesses and their employees and the relevant strategies to combat the effects.
