Book Synopsis Lost To Darkness; Enlightened By Grace by : Laura Gabriela
Download or read book Lost To Darkness; Enlightened By Grace written by Laura Gabriela and published by Marshmallow. This book was released on 2020-09-16 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are so many things that happen to us throughout our lifetime. Things that we have no control over. Things that we don't plan for. In this book I pull back the curtain and reveal all the messy details of my past. Things that would make people cringe at the thought of having to live through. The death of a loved one, a car accident, a divorce, etc. We don't plan for these types of events to happen, but they can happen to anyone. And when they do, they can often leave us wandering around lost in darkness. It's painful, overwhelming, and unsettling. But I have learned that even during those times of darkness there are slivers of light that streak across the sky like lightning. Their presence is inconceivable and breathtakingly beautiful all at once. Moments of Grace. Moments where God whispers, "Even here, lost to darkness, there is still something beautiful to behold." I grew up in an unconventional family, fought through toxic relationships, and suffered the agony of realizing my son would no longer be here with me. Yet, throughout those very dark moments of my past, I've had God flicker magnificent specs of grace all throughout my life. Even when I didn't see it so clearly, He was working things out in the background. I don't know where you're at in life or which chapter your story is on, but my hope and prayer is that sharing my messy life details might bring you peace and hope. If you're walking around lost to darkness, my hope is that this book may leave you enlightened by grace.
Book Synopsis Darkened Enlightenment by : Tim Delaney
Download or read book Darkened Enlightenment written by Tim Delaney and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-04-27 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The premise of Darkened Enlightenment is to highlight the fact that there currently exist a number of socio-political forces that have the design, or ultimate consequence, of trying to extinguish the light of reason and rationality. The book presents a critique of modernity and provides a socio-political and cultural analysis of world society in the early twenty-first century. Specifically, this analysis examines the deterioration of democracy, human rights, and rational thought. Key features include a combination of academic analysis that draws on numerous and specific examples of the growing darkness that surrounds us along with a balanced practical, everyday-life approach to the study of the socio-political world we live in through the use of popular culture references and featured boxes. The general audience will also be intrigued by these same topics that concern academics including: a discussion on the meaning of "fake news"; attacks on the media and a declaration of the news media as the "enemy of the people"; the rise of populism and nationalism around the world; the deterioration of freedom and human rights globally; the growing economic disparity between the rich and the poor; attempts to devalue education; a growing disbelief in science; attacks on the environment; pseudoscience as a by-product of unreasoned and irrational thinking; the political swamp; the power elites and the deep state; and the variations of Big Business that impact our daily lives. This book will make a great contribution to such fields as sociology, philosophy, political science, environmental science, public administration, economics, psychology, and cultural studies.

These passages from the works of early Cistercian monks and nuns reflect on the mystery of that divine light. If we have the light of Christ in our heart, we discover, it is there to shine both for ourselves and for others and to guide us ever closer to the mystery of God. Emma Cazabonne compiled her selections over twenty years of lectio divina and a growing fascination with similarities between Cistercian and Orthodox spirituality.
Book Synopsis Gate of Darkness, Circle of Light by : Tanya Huff
Download or read book Gate of Darkness, Circle of Light written by Tanya Huff and published by Jabberwocky Literary Agency, Inc.. This book was released on 2012-07-01 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1989 and taking place in downtown Toronto, one of the earliest of the modern urban fantasies, Gate of Darkness, Circle of Light is the story of a fight against encroaching darkness by a developmentally handicapped young woman, a street musician with no idea of his potential, a bag-lady who's tired of picking up the pieces, and an adept of the light. Mixing actual Toronto ghost-stories with traditional Faire, a police procedural, and a cat, Gate of Darkness, Circle of Light opened a gate at street level to the urban fantasy that followed. REVIEWS "A mentally disadvantaged young woman who sees what other people don't, a street musician, a social worker, and a bag-lady join forces with an 'Adept of the Light' to fight the encroaching darkness that stalks the streets of modern Toronto. In a departure from the 'strict' fantasy of Child of the Grove (LJ 5/15/88) and The Last Wizard, Huff's real-world fantasy presents an enlightened, compassionate view of the forgotten heroes of urban society. Highly recommended." --Library Journal
Book Synopsis Enlightened Nightscapes by : Pamela F. Phillips
Download or read book Enlightened Nightscapes written by Pamela F. Phillips and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-04-03 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together eleven case studies that address how the night became visible in the long and global eighteenth century through different mediums and in different geographical contexts. Situated on the eve of the introduction of artificial lighting, the long eighteenth century has much to say about night’s darkness and brilliance. The eighteenth century has been bound up epistemologically with images of light, reason, and order. Night and day, light and darkness, reason and mystery, however, are not necessarily at odds in the eighteenth century. In their analysis of narratives, poetry, urban spaces, music, the visual arts, and geological phenomena, the essays provide various frameworks to examine the representation, treatment, and meaning of the enlightened night. The transnational and multidisciplinary nature of the volume presents a survey of the research currently being done in the field of the long eighteenth-century night. This collection contributes to an ongoing exercise that questions the accepted definitions of the Enlightenment, and by bringing Eighteenth-Century Studies into dialogue with Night Studies, it enriches the critical conversation between these lines of research.

Book Synopsis Ribbon of Darkness by : Barbara Maria Stafford
Download or read book Ribbon of Darkness written by Barbara Maria Stafford and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2019-06-18 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the course of her career, Barbara Stafford has established herself the preeminent scholar of the intersections of the arts and sciences, articulating new theories and methods for understanding the sublime, the mysterious, the inscrutable. Omnivorous in her research, she has published work that embraces neuroscience and philosophy, biology and culture, pinpointing connections among each discipline’s parallel concerns. Ribbon of Darkness is a monument to the scope of her work and the range of her intellect. At times associative, but always incisive, the essays in this new volume take on a distinctly contemporary purpose: to uncover the ethical force and moral aspects of overlapping scientific and creative inquiries. This shared territory, Stafford argues, offers important insights into—and clarifications of—current dilemmas about personhood, the supposedly menial nature of manual skill, the questionable borderlands of gene editing, the potentially refining value of dualism, and the limits of a materialist worldview. Stafford organizes these essays around three concepts that structure the book: inscrutability, ineffability, and intuitability. All three, she explains, allow us to examine how both the arts and the sciences imaginatively infer meaning from the “veiled behavior of matter,” bringing these historically divided subjects into a shared intellectual inquiry and imbuing them with an ethical urgency. A vanguard work at the intersection of the arts and sciences, this book will be sure to guide readers from either realm into unfamiliar yet undeniably fertile territory.
