Book Synopsis Promoting Aviation Career Education in High Schools and Community Colleges by : C. Daniel Prather
Download or read book Promoting Aviation Career Education in High Schools and Community Colleges written by C. Daniel Prather and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "More airport operations/management academic programs at both the high school and community college levels would help the airport industry. With baby boomers currently reaching retirement age at the rate of 10,000 each day, and later generations much smaller in size, new employees are not entering the workforce swiftly enough to replace those leaving because of retirement, illness, and other complicating factors. As a result, the aviation industry, like others, is experiencing a significant labor shortage. With no end in sight, the industry has joined forces in a number of unique partnerships in an effort to not only enhance the quality of current aviation graduates, but also stimulate interest in aviation careers among college students, high school students, and even middle school and elementary school students. The TRB Airport Cooperative Research Program's ACRP Synthesis 103: Promoting Aviation Career Education in High Schools and Community Colleges points out the many characteristics of high school and community college aviation programs throughout the country, which could prove useful to airport management. By better understanding the academic programs producing the next generation of aviation professionals, airports can develop proactive efforts to promote the airport profession to aviation programs in their local area and influence young people to seriously consider airports as a viable career path, thus positively affecting the future of the airport industry." -- Provided by publisher.
Book Synopsis Effective Practices for Preparing Airport Improvement Program Benefit-cost Analysis by : Steven Richard Landau
Download or read book Effective Practices for Preparing Airport Improvement Program Benefit-cost Analysis written by Steven Richard Landau and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2009 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA) aids in making capital investment decisions by determining whether the benefits of a proposed action justify its costs. This synthesis, Effective Practices for Preparing Airport Improvement Program Benefit-Cost Analysis, defines and describes benefit assessment techniques used by airports as well as other modes, highlights best practices, and identifies inconsistencies of how benefits are calculated and where there is confusion in the benefit-cost guidance published by the FAA. The project focused on a review of benefit-cost literature, including benefit-cost analyses submitted to the FAA, and structured interviews with airport managers and other applicants, consultants who prepared BCA studies, and FAA staff. BCA is a tool to aid agencies in project selection and prioritization. At its core, it is a computational tool to determine whether an investment will generate benefits that will exceed its costs. This analysis is accomplished by expressing all current and future benefits and costs on an equivalent basis, which is their present value (PV). A project is economically efficient if it has a positive Net Present Value (calculated as the PV of benefits minus the PV of costs), and hence also a Benefit-Cost Ratio exceeding one.

Book Synopsis Airlines in a Post-Pandemic World by : Nawal K. Taneja
Download or read book Airlines in a Post-Pandemic World written by Nawal K. Taneja and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic represents an extraordinary inflection point that caught airlines worldwide unprepared, causing CEOs to recalibrate their business models. This book explains why this unprecedented pandemic is different from the past disruptions experienced by the airline industry during the past 50 years, and what airlines and related businesses now can do to adapt to the dramatically changed marketplace. This book presents two future scenarios: continuous improvements and elastic supply. These are considered in three specific contexts for the rebuilding of the airline business. These contexts, in the order of urgency with respect to change from the status quo, are the following. The first context is for airlines to become better prepared to deal with frequent and deeper disruptions that could be localized or globalized relating to such areas as climate change, geopolitics, and cybersecurity. The second context is to collaborate and integrate within the much broader travel ecosystem, possibly using platforms to innovate on new value systems. The third context, which has always been the case and drives the first two, is for airlines to offer real solutions to people’s travel needs, solutions developed with imagination and turbocharged innovation, even as we contemplate new technology airplanes and mobility as a service solutions. This book is recommended reading for all senior-level practitioners of airlines and related businesses, as well as aviation policy makers worldwide.

Book Synopsis Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis by : Muhammet Gul
Download or read book Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis written by Muhammet Gul and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-12-16 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) includes methods and tools for modeling and solving complex problems. MCDM has become popular in the production and service sectors to improve the quality of service, reduce costs, and make people more prosperous. This book illustrates applications through case studies focused on disaster management. With a presentation of both Multi-Attribute Decision-Making (MADM) and Multi-Objective Decision-Making (MODM) models, this is the first book to merge these methods and tools with disaster management. This book raises awareness for society and decision-makers on how to measure readiness and what necessary preventive measures need to be taken. It offers models and case studies that can be easily adapted to solve complex problems and find solutions in other fields. Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis: Case Studies in Disaster Management will offer new insights to researchers working in the areas of industrial engineering, systems engineering, healthcare systems, operations research, mathematics, business, computer science, and disaster management, and, hopefully, the book will also stimulate further work in MCDM.
