Book Synopsis How to Read Like a Writer by : Mike Bunn
Download or read book How to Read Like a Writer written by Mike Bunn and published by The Saylor Foundation. This book was released on with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When you Read Like a Writer (RLW) you work to identify some of the choices the author made so that you can better understand how such choices might arise in your own writing. The idea is to carefully examine the things you read, looking at the writerly techniques in the text in order to decide if you might want to adopt similar (or the same) techniques in your writing. You are reading to learn about writing. Instead of reading for content or to better understand the ideas in the writing (which you will automatically do to some degree anyway), you are trying to understand how the piece of writing was put together by the author and what you can learn about writing by reading a particular text. As you read in this way, you think about how the choices the author made and the techniques that he/she used are influencing your own responses as a reader. What is it about the way this text is written that makes you feel and respond the way you do?

I have taken 30 credits worth of CLEP exams and I've passed them all by using your study guides. I actually purchased one of your study guides and failed my first test. I didn't fail because of your guide though, I failed because I didn't manage my time effectively and I ran short. I looked at your study guide after failing though, and a lot of the information on your study guide was very relevant to what was on the test. So, I tried again with a different test and a different study guide of yours. I passed. This pattern continues for 30 credits. I graduate on June 9th thanks to you guys, so I wanted to say thank you. The guides were worth every penny. Thanks, -John S.****I would like to thank you for your study guides. I will be graduating in December with two bachelor degrees and CLEP helped me get there quickly. I gained 36 credits through CLEP and your study guides helped me through almost all of them. I can honestly say that I would not have passed many of the tests without your guides. Great products. Thanks!! -Erin W.****

Book Synopsis English Composition As A Happening by : Geoffrey Sirc
Download or read book English Composition As A Happening written by Geoffrey Sirc and published by . This book was released on 2002-04 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Contemporary Composition is still inflected by the epistemic turn taken in the 1980s, convincing me that we need to remember what we've forgotten—namely, how impassioned resolves and thrilling discoveries were abandoned and why. I'd like to retrace the road not taken in Composition Studies, to salvage what can still be recovered... I want to inspect the wreckage, in order to show what was the promise of the Happenings for Composition, as well as the huge gray longueur of its pale replacement, Eighties Composition. In so doing, I hope to begin a reconfiguration of our field's pre- and after history." What happened to the bold, kicky promise of writing instruction in the 1960s? The current conservative trend in composition is analyzed allegorically by Geoffrey Sirc in this book-length homage to Charles Deemer's 1967 article, in which the theories and practices of Happenings artists (multi-disciplinary performance pioneers) were used to invigorate college writing. Sirc takes up Deemer's inquiry, moving through the material and theoretical concerns of such pre- and post-Happenings influences as Duchamp and Pollock, situationists and punks, as well as many of the Happenings artists proper.
Book Synopsis English Composition Teacher's Guidebook by : Tom Mulder
Download or read book English Composition Teacher's Guidebook written by Tom Mulder and published by Equinox Publishing (UK). This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English Composition Teacher's Guidebook: How to Survive (and Even Thrive) as a Part-time or Adjunct Instructor is a practical and motivational handbook for the multitudes of itinerant English adjunct and part-time instructors who travel between multiple colleges and universities teaching English composition to students from different cultures and age groups. The book offers advice and recommendations that are geared specifically for this audience together with sufficient ready-to-use teaching material for a semester-long first-year composition course. The author uses imagined collegial conversations over coffee and hiking and coaching themes to draw lessons for teachers, beginning each chapter with a vignette based on his experiences hiking in scenic locations. The book contains materials for students that can be projected or copied as handouts, including work on sentence combining and analysis as well as topics, peer response sheets, and assessment rubrics for essay assignments. Both the hiking vignettes and classroom activities are illustrated by photographs which add to the interest and enjoyment of reading this book.
Book Synopsis The Bedford Book of Genres: A Guide and Reader by : Amy Braziller
Download or read book The Bedford Book of Genres: A Guide and Reader written by Amy Braziller and published by Macmillan Higher Education. This book was released on 2017-12-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From memes to resumes, fairy tales to researched arguments, in a striking full-color visual design, The Bedford Book of Genres invites students to unpack how genres work in order to experiment with their own compositions. After capturing the imagination of instructors and students in its successful first edition, the second edition incorporates extensive reviewer feedback to better teach students the rhetorical analysis skills they need to read and compose in any situation. To start the text, the Guide now includes a new Part One that lays out the book’s key concepts--rhetorical situation, the elements of a genre, and multimodal composing--and a substantially revised Part Two with examples arranged by academic, workplace, and public contexts. Throughout the text, Guided Readings provide opportunities to analyze the rhetorical situations and conventions of common public and academic genres, while Guided Process sections follow the decisions that five real students made as they worked in multiple genres and media. With a range of readings from short visual arguments to longer, more complex pieces, the Reader gives students a wealth of sources, models, and inspiration for their own compositions. Now available with Launchpad for The Bedford Book of Genres, the second edition offers a compelling digital option with a complete, interactive, assignable e-book.
